(32,111 posts)For example if a state allows people who are 16 to marry does not mean any other state has to do the same.

(5,957 posts)IMO, it would require a constitutional amendment which I don't see ever happening. I'm not an attorney, however; maybe ome will opine.

(40,416 posts)That's where this ends up. If you disagree with that, then I'd say you're delusional.
The only other way is if Congress does something which would be unthinkable under current conditions, pass an equal rights bill for LGBT. (Yes, women, too.)
If Rmoney wins, especially with both houses of Congress, it may never be realized.
If Obama wins with both Houses, it might happen quickly.
And everything in between.

(20,776 posts)It seems like every year there are more and more conservative bigots in America. Everyday it just seems to escalate.. or maybe they just get more press....I have had hopes there would be more progressive views each day, but it just feels like America is peddling backwards. It depresses me greatly.

(692 posts)It will go gradually at first, and then competition for skilled employees will force the Reddest of Red states to grow the fuck up about marriage equality gradually over the next 20-25 years.

(31,011 posts)I felt the vast amount of people on DU were informed enough to know about the inconsistent treatment that marriage equality has gotten from state to state. Saying "50 lands" really seemed unecessary and insulting to DU.

(146,341 posts)vote in 2012 and 2014. If that happens, it'll happen. If not, then, I wouldn't dare predict. So much rides on the next four years. Supreme Court Justices, and much, much more.
GOTV 2012!
