"Are you a Republican?" Sawyer asked.
"Yeah! Is that a bad thing? I believe in the Constitution."
Sawyer wondered whether a transgender individual affiliating with the Republican Party might be "an unsettling thing" for conservative Republicans, but Jenner told her neither party "has a monopoly on understanding." Sawyer asked Jenner whether he would ask Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) or House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to "help champion this cause."
"I would do that, yeah, in a heartbeat," Jenner said. "Why not? And I think they'd be very receptive to it."

(89,240 posts)especially not boehner. but it's more the religious conservatives in the party and the other crazies who would stop them from doing it.
That's why the social conservatives hate them, they know Boner and turtle aren't one of them.

With little of the fanfare or criticism that marked his evolution into the leader Newsweek nicknamed "the first gay president," Obama became the first chief executive to say "transgender" in a speech, to name transgender political appointees and to prohibit job bias against transgender government workers. Also in his first term, he signed hate crime legislation that became the first federal civil rights protections for transgender people in U.S. history.
Since then, the administration has quietly applied the power of the executive branch to make it easier for transgender people to update their passports, obtain health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, get treatment at Veteran's Administration facilities and seek access to public school restrooms and sports programs just a few of the transgender-specific policy shifts of Obama's presidency.

Quantess
(27,630 posts)from your reminder. In any case, Bruce Jenner hasn't announced the preference to be addressed by feminine pronouns.

You didn't say you would wait until Bruce requests different pronouns be used - it said you were waiting for a name announcement. That's what I was responding to.

(27,630 posts)One generally has to include all the disclaimers and write things in such a way that there is no room for misunderstanding, etc...
I should know that it doesn't work to post a flip comment which didn't mean very much, without someone jumping to conclusions about my attitude on a given subject.
My comment amounts to nothing more than a commentary on the name Bruce as perhaps not an obvious choice for a woman.

(26,355 posts)Most of the time, transwomen are to be referred to using their self-identified gender, normally she.
But Bruce Jenner is still using a male name and male pronouns, and asked people to do the same.
I'm guessing that fairly shortly, Jenner will adopt a female name, and ask to be referred to with female pronouns. Right now, it's Jenner's call.

(48,955 posts)that would be a good thing. But the fact that she thinks she can - indicates that she lives in a bubble and pays little attention to republican initiatives of the past decade. Not.terribly.likely. She clearly didn't hear any of the rw rhetoric during and after the Indiana RFA controversies, nor those following in Ark and Ga - nor the brewing storm in Louisiana. The republican side isn't quite as receptive as she has found in metro Los Angeles.

Like I told Jamastiene, it's fine to be that ignorant if you never need to rely on them for support.

(38,187 posts)Being in the Bible Belt is living in the belly of the beast. I was born here and poverty keeps me here. I'm so old now though that even if I won the lottery, I wouldn't even know where to go nor would I ever be so lucky as to be that naive. Or maybe being that naive is not necessarily a good thing, but ignorance is bliss and she seems super blissful if she thinks the Republican Party would ever champion the transgender cause. Oh, to live in a such an insulated world as many do. They don't know how lucky they really are.

(45,251 posts)He said he had been a Democrat, but switched to Republican. He said that he was giving a speech to a large gathering of Republicans, maybe even at a national conventions? (not sure about that last bit.) He said to them (not exact words) that his daughters were pro-choice and he had gay friends. He asked, "Is the elephant's back broad enough for my daughters and my friends?" Claimed he got a standing ovation.
Just like Democrats would love more Republican and Indie votes, Republicans would love more votes from Democrats and Indies, including women and members of the LGBTQ community. Neither of those two parties can afford to alienate their respective bases (yet) though.
It will be interesting to see what happens to both Republicans and Democrats if Republicans are ever able to get sane about equality (which includes reproductive choice).
