What else is new? Conservatives rush to defend cat-killing veterinarian

I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Kristin Lindsey, the veterinarian who shot a neighborhood cat through the head with a bow and arrow and then bragged about it on Facebook. Everyone with at least half a brain knows it was a horrible thing to do. Countless people have spoken out against her horrific actions, including liberals and "the mainstream media."

That's when conservatives HAVE to take the opposite stance. Just like with every other major headline, whatever most sane people agree with, the wacky right wingers feel compelled to be different. (See: George Zimmerman, global warming, Bundy ranch, etc.)

"If she had just had an abortion and was holding up the dead fetus, some of these same people would have been cheering her on." 339 votes

"Who cares, If it was in her yard it is fair game. If the owners have a problem with it they can keep the cat at home or on a leash just like a dog." 259 votes

"Texas is an open range state, if it was on her property so be it, I will be more than glad to use her veterinarian services any time, but would never use the clinic she was fired from if I lived in the area."

If an animal's in her yard and attacking her, or attacking her animals, it's fair game.

In any other circumstances, she's just an asshole killing other people's pets for fun.

Her defenders? Also assholes. Kinda makes me wonder how they all feel about fire, and how many years they wet the bed.

They expect to be obeyed, they need to assert their power, and cats don't deliver on these things. Cats are too cool for them. Liberals are far more likely to be cat people.

Fuck them all. May they all contract cat scratch fever and perish.

And, in particular, men feel about cats is very, very telling in terms of choosing a boyfriend/spouse. I tell her my daughter that if she ever dates a man and she finds out he hates cats to not walk but RUN away. Cat-hating men are invariably controlling assholes with power/insecurity issues, in my experience. I'm not necessarily talking about guys who prefer dogs to cats but don't hate cats ... it's the no-bones-about-it cat haters that are throwing up huge red flags. On the other hand, my stereotype is that men who love cats are usually smarter, funnier, more liberal, more tolerant and just plain better than the average male...I married one.

Bit by rabid cat in 1981 when I was 11. My brother had his face shredded by same cat.

Have not liked cats since. So of course my son wants one

Dogs can do a lot more damage -- they're capable of killing people. I guess cats could kill you, too, if you got a reeeeally bad infection from a bite/scratch.

But I guess those bites are part of the reason I've never been a dog person.

... being shown in how people treat others from whom they have nothing to fear, and nothing to gain.

I'm sure it referred to the treatment of people, but I think it applies here. The cat was not food. The cat was not a danger. The cat had no power in the situation at all.

Why not treat it kindly, or at most just ignore it?

Unless you're a sociopath who delights in causing pain and death for no reason, just because you think can get away with it, that is.

had I had more lands and some livestock, I may want a dog or two out there guarding. But otherwise, dogs are butt kissers. Once my granddaughter is a little older, I will adopt another one. Cats and 18 month olds aren't usually a good combo

See post #11.

I sort of know where you're coming from because I'm kind of like that, but with dogs. I consider myself a big animal person, and I'm usually okay with my friends' dogs in small amounts, but I get easily annoyed by them (barking, the way they smell, panting in your face, jumping on you, etc.). I wish I were more of a dog person. But I've reunited dogs with their owners, I donate to the Humane Society, am against puppy mills, and I wish them all well, as I do all animals.

My cats come when they're called.

My dog on the other hand, when you call her, she just stands there with a goofy look on her face. It as she's saying, "Oh no, thanks. I've got a lot of things that need sniffing out here. You just stand there by the gate; I'll let you know when I'm ready."

I think the thing I have noticed about any people's reaction to cats and dogs is that some people love dogs, some people are neutral about dogs, but very few people hate dogs. Cats, OTOH, some people love them, very few people are neutral, and some people hate them.

And the difference, I believe, is that dogs want to please us, and cats want to please themselves. My cats come because I make it worth their while. I always have head rubs, and sometimes I have treats. And while I have high hopes that the same training method will work with the dog, it may not, because her desire to please, her love of head rubs, is being overridden by her beagle instincts to smell EVERYTHING in the world. Twice. You know, just in case the smell changed while she was in another part of the yard.

I'm not a cat lover, I don't even care to be around cats, we're dog people in our family. That being said, when I saw the picture on social media of Kristen Lindsey holding that cat up with an arrow through it and bragging about it, my heart was torn out. You don't have to be a cat lover to feel the absolute disgust of someone torturing and killing an innocent animal.

I've been on message boards and for the most part people agree this was a heinous act by a very disturbed person and Ms. Lindsey needs to lose her license and be prosecuted. But there is the occasional nutcase who keeps trying to turn the conversation about the killing of the cat into a discussion about Bill and Monica, abortion, Benghazi, etc.

There is a definite backlash to anyone who wants to defend her and anyone with even an ounce of humanity (you don't have to be a cat lover or even like animals) to see how horrible this is.

And it's also truly disgusting that conservatives can't see how wrong this is. We should all be on the same page on this one. Not just that Ms. Lindsay could not tell a feral cat from a domesticated one, but murdering it, and posting that horrific image on Facebook. I can't get that out of my head. I'm not a cat person in the slightest, but I couldn't imagine doing that to an animal like that. This woman is a monster, and anyone who tries to spin this into a liberal vs. conservative debate really does not know what they are talking about.

There is a mix of conservative and liberals at CSU vet med. Even the most teabag conservative I know from there is disgusted. The only folks defending her publically are trolls and one of her veterinarian friends who is trying to make a case for feral cats being a major rabies reservoir. I think these folks quoted above are outliers and trolls. There is universal horror at what she did by people of all political stripes.
