Class forced to crawl on track

SAN ANGELO, Texas Parents of Junction Elementary School fifth-grade students thought twice about sending their children back to school this week.
Their children came home Wednesday with scraped knees and palms, injuries they told their parents were the result of punishment meted out by teachers who forced them to crawl 100 meters slightly more than the length of a football field on the school running track.
The parents took their complaints to the school as well as local law enforcement authorities.

Parents said their children told them the punishment was in response to an incident earlier in the day when a few fifth-graders "meowed," making cat noises after being told by their teacher to be quiet.

(11,411 posts)Maybe they work in some cases, but as a child, I always felt helpless in those situations where I was collectively punished as part of the class. In most cases, the children acting up were not my friends so it is not like I had any influence over them. It made me feel bullied both by the "bad kids" and the teacher.

(6,670 posts)If you're going to punish ME for a crime, then I'M going to do a crime.
And if you hurt me first, I'm going to hurt you a lot more than you hurt me.
And I'm not going to tell you this, and you're not going to discover it. Until it's too late.
I eventually grew up enough to realize that it isn't ALWAYS the most appropriate response. But it DOES work.
