By Travis Waldron
The American economy added 115,000 jobs in April, and while that number fell well short of expectations, it represents the 26th consecutive month of private sector job growth. Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was quick to harp on the report, appearing on Fox & Friends just minutes after the release to say that the economy should be growing at a much faster pace. The economy should be adding more than 500,000 jobs a month, Romney said:
Watch it:
<...>
Romneys call for 500,000 jobs a month would certainly make for a faster economic recovery. That sort of growth, however, is hardly normal, as Romney claims. As the chart below shows, there have only been 16 months since 1939 and only four in the last 50 years in which the economy added 500,000 jobs or more:
It isnt the first time Romney has made unreasonable claims about the economy. Romney released a tax plan in March that would reduce federal revenues by more than $6 trillion because of its massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Despite that number, Romney says his plan wont add to the deficit, but economic analysis of the plan shows the economy would have to grow 6.8 percent a year for five years significantly faster than it has in any five-year period in recent history. As the Center for American Progress Michael Linden and Seth Hanlon said at the time, Romneys plan is implausible, to say the least.
Not only are Romneys claims unrealistic and borderline impossible, his economic plan also provides no path toward such growth. Romneys policies, according to a Republican National Committee official, would be the same as former President George W. Bushs, just updated. Those tax cutting policies, of course, failed to create jobs or stimulate economic growth and instead left the country with the massive budget deficit and sputtering economy Romney now claims hell fix.

Oh look, three of those four recent times were under Democratic Presidents, including President Obama.
Now, what do you have to say about that, former Governor Mitt "47th in job creation" Romney: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002609835

(51,122 posts)Pass.
"So Rmoney has a 3 out of 16 chance of coming through on his bullshit lie?"
That's 16 times (months) out of 73 years, or 876 months.
So it's a one in 55 chance.
If you consider only the last 50 years (or 600 months), it becomes one in 150.

(16,646 posts)There are innumerable versions of these plots, from deficit history, to job creation, to the size of government, all of which show that since FDR, the democrats have been better at the economy, and jobs, and deficits, than the GOP could ever HOPE to be.
I'm convinced that people just don't understand graphs. They seemed to work for Perot for a moment. But other than that, there is just no way anyone could understand the simplest of graphs, and still hold on to any idea that the GOP gets anything right. And Romney is the worst of the bunch. He can't show a graph that passes the laugh test, much less a smell test. Anything he claims approaches the impossible.

(90,370 posts)...it would be HUGE.
The AMOUNT of ignorant statements that will come out of this mouth is PRIME to paint RMoney as ignorant and not being able to lead the economy and it would be truthful looking at the last 100 years of conservative economic policies
500,000 a month you say? Y'think Mittens advisors would have come up with a more papable number cause this number is twilight zone numbers - LOL
Mittens has severely mis-spoken, again.

(37 posts)With the Republicans trying to sabotage every single thing our president is doing to turn the country around, they are complaining about the country not being turned around. When is the CNN suck ass slimeballs gonna ask their Republipuke guests what they have done to help our president create jobs. Then watch them lie about nonsense.
Republicans are sabotaging our country.
It's a fact.
All so they can prove to their mouth breather zombie followers they need to blame Obama.

(10,749 posts)Well, Mitt, you're part of the 1%. Or the 1/10 of 1%. You're one of the job creators. Your friends, also members of this exclusive club, are also job creators.
Why, then, are you placing the blame on President Obama for the less than stellar job report? Rather, shouldn't you be calling our your friends for their failure to do their job, that is, to create jobs? Do you take responsibility for nothing? Oh, that's right. IOKIYAR

(31,706 posts)Now that he's the de-facto rushpublican nominee, he feels he must now weigh in about anything and everything...and most times with a tin ear. It's apparent he's surrounded by a bunch of morons who also are chompin' to run for the nearest microphone with their latest poutrage. If it rains in Boston, Obama surely is to blame due to global warming or some manufactured "outrage". In their zest to try to seize the upper hand on the cables, this campaign is showing a Quayle-like ability to faux pas at the drop of a headline.
These distortions show how Rmoney is still trying to win over the great unhinged in his corrupt and inept party...to speak inside the bubble where hyperbole trump facts and where he hopes the more fear and poutrage the more the fundies and wingnuts will like him. For us in the reality-based world it's just more proof this sleezeball can and will say anything to try to look good and generally comes out smeller worse when he tries...
