Angie's List Cancels $40 Million 1000 Jobs Indiana Expansion Over Anti-Gay 'Religious Freedom' Law

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/angie_s_list_cancels_40_million_1000_jobs_indiana_expansion_over_anti_gay_religious_freedom_law

The decision by Angie's List to pull back its investment in Indiana is part of a huge and growing negative response from businesses and other financial interests across the country that do business or are based in Indiana, and other public individuals and entities, including the world's largest and most-respected corporation, Apple, Inc., the City of San Francisco, the White House, Broadway's Audra McDonald, $4 billion software firm Salesforce, $50 million annual gaming convention Gen Con, Fortune 500 member Cummins, Eskenazi Health, Eli Lilly and Co., Yelp, Hillary Clinton, George Takei, Pat McAfee, Jason Collins, Ashton Kutcher, Miley Cyrus, James Van Der Beek, Sophia Bush, Dustin Lance Black, Mara Wilson, Jack Antonoff, the Mayor of Indianapolis, and the State of Indiana's own tourism board.

not all repugs are bad repugs (as repugs go)... meaning some are financially conservative but socially liberal. It DOES happen from time to time but not as often as I'd like to see. Angie Hicks may be one of those repugs. She may not be a tea-partier crazy headed for the looney-bin.

Since I don't know a lot about her, I don't know if this is the case with her or not.

conservative but socially liberal. They said they were just trying to protect what they had gathered in life. Seems many republicans fear they're going to come take their money away.

I've also talked with strong true conservatives that were very gay friendly. It was interesting, they were very conservative about pricing structures in stores, thought there should be mandated reasonable and cheap affordable stores for all for essentials. These types are OK by me.

Sadly what we see are more and more loonies in the republican party. Years ago one could work with republicans for balanced solutions, today IMO we see mostly crazies in the republican party. Just looking at the republican presidential hopefuls is a horror show.

or given them money or any other kind of direct support, she is culpable. It doesn't matter a ratfuck if she's "socially liberal" if she's voting for people who aren't.

A little background on this 'gem'.

I live in Indiana and I know this was supposedly bringing lots of jobs. Giving major tax breaks rarely brings the number claimed.

IMO, they are using this as a way to raise their 'cool'quotient. They have been getting hammered in the media recently, especially social media. The company had been threatening to back out before this and it was over those tax breaks.

In this case I'm saying "Bye bye!"

I hypothesize they didn't want the possible backlash for investing there. The time when anti-lgbt wedge issues were effective has long past. Many state governments haven't figured that out, but the shrewder of businesses will want to stay as far away from laws like this as possible to avoid the tarnish-by-associate. They want to make money.

Hey Mike, bigotry and hatred wrapped in religion is still bigotry and hatred. You have just demonstrated that you are not fit to be POTUS. You do not have the backbone to stand up to the Christian homophobic haters and tell them to their faces that Jesus loves everybody. That public businesses are required to treat all citizens fairly and equitably, when providing products and services to the public.

I think if this law can hold next year there will be additions of things we can discriminate against. It could go on to other groups. It also makes it apparent to me the GOP is dead set in totally removing those whom they do not consider "acceptable", they have a good start on voting, it will continue.
