these "Religious Liberty" laws.
Yes, they look unconstitutional on their face, but that hasn't stopped the current SCOTUS.
Those thinking "nothing to worry about, they will all be overturned", aren't paying attention.
The court upheld Hobby Lobby, and overturned part of the Voting Rights Act in the face of overwhelming evidence of voting rights violations.
And right now are considering an Obamacare case that is without merit and in which the protagonists have no standing.

(92,492 posts)unconstitutional, even by this court. If it gets to the SC, I cannot see them justifying refusal of service to someone because they are gay.
The implications go beyond someone sexual preferences, and if the court ruled that constitutional, then the Constitution isn't worth the paper it is written on

(33,651 posts)but I don't see evidence that the conservative majority of this court will.
They have shredded the constitution before.

Bush v Gore
Hobby Lobby
Citizens United
Voting Rights
need I go on?
I'm not saying they won't overturn it, I'm saying being sure they will is foolish.

(99,719 posts)The 7-2 vote which stated that recounting the votes in some counties and not others was a violation of the equal protection clause because it's treated voters differently based on the county they reside in...That makes a certain kind of sense...
However in the 5-4 vote, two of the the minority wanted the votes (re)counted in all the counties...That made the most sense to me...
What is ironic is there were thousands of spoiled ballots from Duval County (Jacksonville), where there was no (re)count and those were from heavily African American and presumably Democratic precincts...
I have no doubt if every vote was (re)counted Gore would have won... Every recount was yielding more votes for him when they stopped counting.
What a fiasco...
