I've read and heard about so many bad situations, both for safety and financial outcomes. Has anyone else heard of their local PDs doing this?
From the City of Flint Police Department Face Book Page:
The Flint Police Department is following the lead of several other local police departments and offering the use of our lobby for transactions arranged through online websites such as Craigslist. Our goal is to provide a safe environment for these transactions and to reduce the possibility of fraud, robbery and assaults from occurring.
Please keep in mind that our personnel cannot witness or sign legal documents, mediate, or give legal advice. Our Officers may provide information to anyone concerned about a fraudulent transaction and assure the safety of all parties involved. As a buyer or seller in these transactions, you should be wary of anyone that is not willing to meet you at the police department for the transaction.
When using our facilities please take a moment, prior to the transaction, to advise our staff of the meeting. Our lobby is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and is monitored by video recording equipment. We are located at 210 E. Fifth St, Flint, 48502.

(26,317 posts)I absolutely love this time of the year. Now through the end of Autumn, Flint and the surrounding areas absolutely explode with activity. The new Farmer's Market, the Art Walk, the renovation of down town, the festivals like The Crim Road Race, Back to the Bricks, Bikes to the Bricks, just for starters. Every single Summer weekend brings another Ethnic Festival so there's lots of wonderful music and amazing foods to sample.
Sure, there are still a whole lot of problems, but there is also a whole lot of positive things happening.
My wife is in the Art Fair every year, my cousin is the head chef at the farmers market, most of my family still lives in the area, as well as many friends. My farther-in-law had an opening at the Buckham Gallery recently.
I am aware of these things, but the nation, and even as near as Brighton and Davison or Lansing only knows the stereotype.
So it is nice to see something good in the news.

(7,814 posts)I was born and raised there, graduated from Northern HS and UM-F, and had to leave because I needed a job. My family is still there.
I loved the ethnic festivals (the Lebanese one was the best!), but it won't be the same without Rosie singing Bill Bailey.
