The State governments:
Women = control them
Elderly Asians = starve them
Immigrants = deport them
LGB = refuse them sales and service
Transgender = arrest and demean them
Children = keep them uneducated and hungry
People of color = incarcerate them
Young black men = kill them
And the federal government
Sell us all to the highest bidder

(23,156 posts)Maybe starving all elderly (proposed cuts in Medicare) but I've missed any special legislation directed at elderly Asians.
Well there isn't legislation to starve then. Just like there is no legislation to kill black men. It is what is happening. It is the lack of legislation and lack of help and lack of acknowledgment that is causing it.
There are, obviously, laws being introduced, and in some cases, passed, against some of those groups. And lack of legislation and outright ignoring the problem that are causing others.

68% of AAPIs age 65+ receive social security vs 86% of total US 65+ population.
29% of AAPIs 65+ own their homes free and clear vs. 48% of the total U.S. 65+ population

There are many stories out there. The pride instilled in the AAPI population 65+ has also caused them to not talk about it to anyone. They have a much harder time learning English which also causes issues.

(17,997 posts)I actually only learned it myself not that long ago. There was a story about a small community of elderly Japanese Americans that were nearly starving and a woman who found out and started helping them. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming. I tried to find it again to post here but I can't.
