ALBANY Deric Peterson, 31, was sentenced Friday to 60 days in the Albany County jail after pleading guilty last month to an animal cruelty charge, county prosecutors said.
Last June, Albany police discovered four dogs and nine cats in an apartment on South Pine Street. The animals, living in conditions that were deemed unsafe even for humans, were so malnourished that one had to be euthanized, officials said. The animals belonged to Peterson, police believe.
Peterson, whose address was given as Troy, was sentenced in City Court to misdemeanor torturing or injuring animals by failure to provide proper sustenance. He also got three years' probation and was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, the District Attorney's office said.
The case against another defendant in the case, Rachel Fasnacht, 24, is pending in City Court, prosecutors said.
