It looks like the crash in 1999, the Egyptian pilot facing a very involuntary retirement because of too many birthdays.

I had an uncle who had a rough forced retirement from flying, which was the only thing he truly loved doing. He decided to drink himself to death instead of going out doing what he loved doing and committing mass murder as an unfortunate side effect.

There should be 2 crew members in the cockpit at all times in case one becomes incapacitated or goes bonkers. A second person should always be there to open the door if a pilot or copilot has stepped out.

The other pilot tried fighting for the controls, but couldn't take away control of the plane.

At his age of 28. I wonder if there is some "broken heart" thing going on here.

People do crazy things for love- or the loss of it.

...for requiring commercial pilot licenses be automatically revoked for life if the person is diagnosed with a mental illness.

This will make people feel more secure ("Thank God we're doing something!!!&quot , but will only mean that those pilots who sense they might have a mental problem will avoid getting treatment in order to keep their license. The end result will be that pilots who could continue to have a normal life and career with medication will be flying unmedicated, thus making their mental illness even more dangerous, and making it more likely this will happen again.

As usual, "the generals are always fighting the previous war."

stay to themselves more and more. They quit seeing friends, going places and reaching out.

It strikes me that this is a case of grandiosity plus narcissism plus depression.

If you are determined to kill yourself, you can do it without killing 150 other people, pulverizing a multi-million dollar airplane and landing on worldwide television for days.

Seems like it was his world and everybody else was just a supporting player for him.
