(5,082 posts)Even Zimmerman is hiding behind and desecrating religion by claiming he represents God now. I guess these assholes down to the lowest on the totem realize how gullible the American Public is now. Any murderous, wife beating thug can claim God is on his side as long as he is White. I wonder when someone is going to make an example out of a guy like Zimmerman.

(5,402 posts)"That won't work, it will never be enough, good health care costs a lot of money, remembering 'the distant parts of this province' in which 'assistance cannot be procured, but at an expense that neither [the sick-poor] nor their townships can afford.'
'[This] seems essential to the true spirit of Christianity, and should be extended to all in general, whether deserving or undeserving, as far as our power reaches.'"
- Ben Franklin (One of my heroes)
These bastards, squawking against public healthcare and for Christian values and how they are just following the intent of the Founding Fathers are so full of shit.

(4,571 posts)From "Some Account of the Pennsylvania Hospital, from its First Rise..."
"The increase of poor diseased foreigners and others, settled in the distant parts of this province, where regular advice and assistance cannot be procured, but at an expense that neither they nor their township can afford, has wakened the attention of sundry humane and well disposed minds, to procure some more certain, effectual and easy methods for their relief....a law was passed without one dissenting voice, giving two thousand pounds for building and furnishing a provincial hospital, on condition that two thousand pounds more should be raised by private donations, to be put out at interest as part of a perpetual fund for supporting it; and the contributors were made a body corporate...."

(4,552 posts)Someone with some power is finally saying it out loud!
We all need to say it out loud.
Christ did not ask us to help the poor.
He demanded we help the poor.
Also he said nothing about judging the poor first.
He did teach us who would do the judging, and it ain't us.

(92,502 posts)supporters of these tea party buffoons, are quick to criticize Muslims for not speaking out vocally when violent acts are committed in the name of Islam, however, the silence is deafening when republicans who characterize themselves as "christian", push legislation which harms the poor and less fortunate

(21,845 posts)His Carter Center has nearly eliminated the guinea worm, a truly nasty parasite that enters the body as a fluke in the drinking water and emerges (either through a bodily orifice or by digging its own tunnel) as a 3 foot long worm. When he started, there were 3.5 million known cases. Today it is less than 200. It will be the second human disease in history to be expunged (following smallpox).
He is now working on river blindness, which has 25 million victims. He has already removed it from Central and South America and is now working in Africa.
Along with Habitat for Humanity and other charities, he is using his name and status to HELP PEOPLE. Name one Christian Republican with Carter's record of accomplishment.
Please. I truly hope you can.
