GOP US Senator Introduces Anti-Gay Pro-Discrimination 'Religious Freedom' Amendment

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/gop_senator_introduces_anti_gay_pro_discrimination_federal_amendment

U.S. Senator James Inhofe is known for being virulently anti-gay, and the world's greatest climate change denier. Today, with the GOP holding a majority in both the House and the Senate, Inhofe is ironically the Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Environment, which gives him a large measure of control over the government's ability to fight climate change – or to not.

In his role as a same-sex marriage opponent, Senator Inhofe hails from the great state of Oklahoma, where state anti-gay lawmakers like Joseph Silk have been making national headlines....

Yesterday, Senator Inhofe joined the ranks of those who claim to be oppressed, or fear being oppressed, for merely living by their deeply held religious beliefs – to be anti-gay and to discriminate against LGBT people.

Inhofe introduced a federal version of a bill currently making its way around state legislatures, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The state versions mandate that no person or business shall be forced to serve anyone, as long as they can claim that doing so would violate their sincerely held religious beliefs.

Obama's veto pen is all that stands between us and this sort of tripe. Now are you gonna sit '16 out?

Oklahoma tried to pass a similar bill.

Describing herself as ‘adamantly opposed’ to the proposed legislation is Emily Virgin (pictured), a Democratic member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

This week, Virgin introduced an amendment to the bill. In brief, the amendment stated that if you were planning on refusing to serve LGBT people on religious grounds, then you must display a public notice to this effect.

‘Any person not wanting to participate in any of the activities set forth in subsection A of this section based on sexual orientation, gender identity or race of either party to the marriage shall post notice of such refusal in a manner clearly visible to the public in all places of business, including websites,’ said the amendment.

‘The notice may refer to the person’s religious beliefs, but shall state specifically which couples the business does not serve by referring to a refusal based upon sexual orientation, gender identity or race.’

The bill has stalled, BTW.
