'Duck Dynasty' Star Imagines Vivid Rape And Murder Scenario For Atheist Family

"Duck Dynasty" star and conservative icon Phil Robertson told a gruesome, vivid story on Friday about the hypothetical rape and murder of a family to illustrate the perils of atheism, according to audio surfaced by Right Wing Watch.

The website reported that Robertson made the remarks during a speech at a Florida prayer breakfast that was later broadcast by the conservative radio program TruNews. From the Right Wing Watch report on Robertson's speech:

“I’ll make a bet with you,” Robertson said. “Two guys break into an atheist’s home. He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters. Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him. And then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot them and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off in front of him. And then they can look at him and say, ‘Isn’t it great that I don’t have to worry about being judged? Isn’t it great that there’s nothing wrong with this? There’s no right or wrong, now is it dude?’”

Robertson kept going: “Then you take a sharp knife and take his manhood and hold it in front of him and say, ‘Wouldn’t it be something if this [sic] was something wrong with this? But you’re the one who says there is no God, there’s no right, there’s no wrong, so we’re just having fun. We’re sick in the head, have a nice day.’”

“If it happened to them,” Robertson continued, “they probably would say, ‘something about this just ain’t right.”

Firstly just the idea that not believing in an omnipotent God means that you automatically believe there is no right and no wrong is one of the most brazen bastardization of atheism.

But further, of the two groups, the only ones with that "get out of hell" card are the Christians. Is it any wonder that only .07% of the prison population regards themselves as "atheist". In the greater society the percentage is 6%. You'd think prisons would be full of these people that don't believe there is a wrong or right

https://www.dropbox.com/s/teyy5pn3nfn7g35/Atheists%20in%20Prison%20Data.xlsx

What is more likely is some rapist, murderer, comes before the court, and pleads that during his pre-trial incarceration, that, Praise God, he has found Jesus. He has seen the Light and can only ask for forgiveness from the injured family and will only do good from now on. And that the judge might be swayed by this to not punish him as harshly. And if it were Robertson's family that was that injured family and they were sitting in court hearing this...I wonder if they would clap for that.

This was presented as a serious philosophical argument that the only thing that makes rape and murder wrong is that God says so and will punish you for it after you die. (Except for that whole "get out of any transgression free" card called "believe in Jesus" of course)

This dumbass is, like ever so many religious idiots before him, seriously declaring that if he didn't believe God existed he could conceive of no reason he would find raping and murdering people wrong so therefore atheists must have no grounds for calling it wrong.

Which means he is, essentially, declaring that he is a psychopath. And the only thing keeping him in check is the belief that an ever present all powerful supernatural policeman is looking over his shoulder every second of his life.

I'm not agnostic or atheist because I don't believe in right or wrong. I just haven't seen convincing proof of god or virgin birth, a lot of the supernatural claims or opinions of right or wrong from thousands of years ago.

I certainly consider myself a moral person, I don't believe in harming for personal gang. In the scenario, I still consider breaking into someone's home, tying them up... is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Sometimes whenever someone will try to invite me to church, mention it is laid back, the serve food have BBQs, etc. Respectfully, I'll mention why a lot of things are good decline because I'd have to pretend the religious part then all of a sudden people start treating me as if I'm el diablo.

If they're atheists, why would they be hostile toward their victim's views? Therefore, they must be believers of some sort. What does Phil's story have to say about believers, who are perpetrating a crime, vs atheists, who haven't harmed anyone?

Some people do need a guide, most of us normal people were born with a sense of right and wrong.
This sicko was not.

My former sister-in-law watches this crap all day long. It's her absolute favorite show, and she stares at the screen, as if mesmerized. In fact, I guess she is mesmerized. Anyway, millions of Americans worship the DD people for their traditional values, patriotism, blah, blah, blah. I guess you can add mental illness to the list of virtues. I mean, we all imagine horrible things happening to people, including ourselves, but we don't actually wish these dreams would come true, even for those we loathe. But here you have a guy who not only cultivates such fantasies, but reveals them in public, and it's clear he thinks such gruesome stuff would be just punishment for not believing in Jesus. "Something about this just ain't right." Yeah, Phil, your head.

Wow, how shocked everyone must have been when they learned God said they can't kill or steal anymore because it's bad.

Although come to think of it, according to the Bible, rape could be atoned for by marrying the victim and paying fifty pieces of silver to the father. Or even A-okay if it's raping women as part of the spoils of war.

Sorry Phil, your religion doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to knowing the difference between right and wrong.

Normal people do NOT avoid raping and murdering people just because they're afraid of going to hell. They avoid doing these things because they're decent human beings and don't have an urge to injure and kill others just for the sake of it.

That story made me feel sick; I would frankly wish to avoid getting anywhere near Phil Robertson on a dark night.

One has to have a sick mind to come up with this sort of "story." When I was a boy during the 1950s and '60s, black Americans had a name for low-class guys like him: "white trash."

Of course, he fails to recognize that atheists are a diverse group. In other words, as far as moral standards are concerned, they're like everybody else. They run the gamut from noble to evil.

Robertson and others like him are an embarrassment to me as a Christian.

if the only reason you don't rape, murder, and mutilate your neighbors is a religion-inspired fear of post-death consequences, you don't have any moral code beyond cowardice.

88. Would anyone like to know why I can't be a Christian?
Tue Mar 24, 2015, 08:42 PM

According to this asshole's fucked-up belief system, two Christian men can fulfill this horrific scenario then go out in the yard, drop to their knees, put their hands together and say, "bless me, Father, for I have sinned" and God will simply put his hand down out of the sky, pat them on their precious heads, and say, "there, there, it's all right, I'm certain you didn't mean it, when you die you still get to go to heaven." No matter how evil you are, as long as you say "I believe!" you go to heaven when you die. For all we know, (insert name of the worst dictator you can think of - there are so many you don't have to stick to the obvious ones) said "Lord, I Believe!" just seconds before he died and he's in heaven right now along with all the people who really deserve to be there.

No. Fuck that. There HAVE to be penalties for this shit. If there's such a thing as a Get Out of Hell Free Card then I don't want a damn thing to do with anyone who's waving one around.

The tagline under "Duck Bucks" sums up the Robertsons' philosophy better than anything anyone's issued to date.

His inner life must be a scary, scary place if this is what he spends his time thinking about.

Frankly, I don't think religious or non-religious people think that murder and rape are "right".

What an asshole.
