States ranked on federal govt dependence! OK, I know we've all seen it

I know I am preaching the quire here but a ranking has been posted out there in cyberspace. States most dependent and least dependent on federal government aid! Comes up again and again, none the less I find it very interesting.

No huge surprises, the reddest of the red states are among THE MOST DEPENDENT on federal aid.

Most Dependent:
1. New Mexico
2. Mississippi
3. Kentucky (So much for rugged individualism, eh Sen. McConnell?)
4. Alabama
5. Montana

Least Dependent:
1. New Jersey (Surprised me a little. Especially with Christie in office now)
2. Delaware
3. Illinois
4. Minnesota
5. Kansas (This was a surprise! Didn't see that one coming.)

I'll put honorable mention to my former home state of Massachusetts which ranked 8th among the least dependent states. California ranked 6th of the least dependent.

West Virginia missed the top 5 for most dependent. And one state that I lived in and have deep affection for is Maine which would have been at the bottom of the top 10 most dependent.
