Sam Johnson GOP Rep. Texas. "There Is NO FREEDOM From Religion." A-hole.

He has presented a bill that would require Air Force cadets to acknowledge God in their oath to US every year. There could be a time that all of us would be required to take and "oath to God" to stay citizens I guess. We cannot afford to ignore these crazy bastards. They are getting more dangerous every day. Or they get more absurd in their public announcements.

2. This is a bizarre rationale

“Our Constitution’s very First Amendment protects every individual’s freedom of religion. But our servicemen and women who protect our county with their lives are seeing that freedom under fire.

“In 2013, the U.S. Air Force Academy made the phrase “so help me God” optional in the oath each cadet takes. And why did they do this? Because of one radical atheist group’s demands!

“Let me be clear: Americans have the freedom of religion – but not freedom from religion. That’s why I am introducing legislation that requires Congressional approval before any change would be made to military oaths.

“The moral foundation of our country is in serious danger if we allow radical groups to dictate whether or not we can freely express our religious beliefs! It’s time to take a stand.”

From his statement when he presented the Preserve and Protect God in Military Oaths Act (H.R. 1425).

So in order to preserve religious freedom he is requiring cadets to say "so help me God." I don't think Johnson really knows what freedom is.

Here's the text of the bill - apparently what it actually does is require congressional approval on any changes to any military oaths; presumably on the theory that Congress would never approve removing "so help me God" from any oath.

8. He needs to re-read the rest of the Constitution - POTUS is military CIF

And our military are not part of the Crusades. Apparently Johnson is one of the deluded who think this is a Christian nation.

Or is he so religiously bigoted that he doesn't think Hindus, wiccans, pagans or atheists can honorably serve in the military?

15. I wonder if they've never heard word 'hypocrit.' Or do they think it's a trait of which to be proud?

6. Y'all remember ChickMagic, right?

Once upon a time, she got right in Johnson's face while wearing a pin from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. He seemed somewhat taken aback at her upfront atheism. For those who don't know her, ChickMagic became my wife.

That said, he's (1) a Vietnam POW, (2) Republican, and (3) white, so I think that Congressional seat is his for as long as he wants it.

Especially considering the high number of athiests in tech/science fields. My son would have never taken that oath.

The whole purpose of the establishment clause of the First Amendment is to stop this stupidity
