(165 posts)Now that Texas has inflicted Cruz on the nation, his candidacy serves a very useful purpose for the GOP.
Without Cruz in the race, the right-wing policies promoted by GOP "moderates" like Bush, Walker, and Christie would land on the conservative end of the spectrum, compared to those proposed by Democrats (which are already conservative).
Cruz will move the Overton window much further to the right, so his less extreme colleagues appear to be centrists. And of course, that means our fair and balanced press will position the policies of Bush et. al. as representing the midpoint of American views, in contrast to the ideas from those "liberal" Democrats.
Transparent, predictable, and disgusting.

(31,414 posts)Christchurch, was, in fact, my first choice of cities. But we discovered that
the job my husband was interested in there had just been filled by a guy from
South Africa--fleeing the demise of apartheid. So, I dunno, maybe they
know more about wacko birds now from personal experience than they did
20 years ago.

Responding to a statement by Senator John McCain that his opposition to immigration reform made him a wacko bird, Cruz to CBS News that if standing for liberty and standing for the Constitution makes you a wacko bird then I am a very, very proud wacko bird.
