King: 'I don't understand how Jews in America can be Democrats first and Jewish second'

By Jeremy Diamond, CNN

http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/20/politics/steve-king-jews-demcorats-first-jewish-second/index.html

"SNIP..................

(CNN)—Republican Rep. Steve King suggested Friday that some American Jews feel like "Democrats first and Jewish second."

"Here is what I don't understand, I don't understand how Jews in America can be Democrats first and Jewish second and support Israel along the line of just following their President," King, a hardline conservative from Iowa, said Friday on Boston Herald Radio,

"It says this, they're knee-jerk supporters of the President's policy," King said.

As a Republican from Iowa, King has met with virtually every Republican considering a 2016 presidential run, hosting the first cattle call of 2016 Republican hopefuls in Iowa in January.

... a Tea Party fanatic, second; a Christo-fascist, third; maybe being an American comes in fourth?

What the Tea Party-Repuglicans cannot grasp is that about 96 percent of Jews in the U.S. put the fate of Isreal way, way down on the list of their top issues.

Why?

Because they are Americans first and foremost.

to respond to this. If 47 Senators, supposedly representing
their constituents, can sign a letter to undermine their
own president's policies without their state's outcry, he may
have put his finger on the right spot.

No question, AIPAC helps all those Senators, who go along
with Bibi's outrageous policies, but I did not hear a huge
outcry from the American Jewish population about this.

So, perhaps he has a weird kind of point.

I Don't Think It Gets Any Better Than This

By Josh Marshall - March 20, 2015

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) denounces "Jews in America" who are "Democrats first and Jewish second" when it comes to supporting Benjamin Netanyahu.

It really is true that for conservatives of a certain stripe, like King, Huckabee and others, Jews are little more than a kind of yahwistic lawnjockeys, mascots for a certain type of militant defense policy and museum pieces in the historical imagination of right-wing Christianity.

I'd give credit to the DUer for bringing it here and refer to the thread as usual, but jumped to the original to see if there was more. But there is no more. The last paragraph was memorable.

Where's the thread on dual-citizenship?

Please give a link or title to search. I didn't see it. Many complaints come from what I see as an unconscious anti-semiticism. Those who make the complaint are unlikely to admit it, no matter how many facts are presented. Purely because it is unconscious or in the subconscious from years of meme, so they are NOT conscious of it, to their credit.

Being able to migrate to Israel is a mixed bag. Some I know say they will if they are persecuted, but most can't move. They shouldn't have to deal with it in America.

It also isn't limited to the right. We get a healthy dose from the left too. Take a peek at the comment above yours. When the situation between Netanyahu and Boehner erupted, lots of people called into question the loyalty of Jews in Congress (and here). A few posters even posted anti-Semitic sites "proving" all Jewish Congresspeople were "dual citizens" of Israel. We have assholes like King crowing about Jews shouldn't be democrats (passive-aggressively), the flip side whining about the "power" of the Jewish votes (usually in Florida, but this last election it was all about Ohio).

destroyed at the End of Days? Hard to like a party whose main constituency are a bunch of evangelical crazies who think Israel belongs to them and that Jews living in it are only doing so on borrowed time. Republicans love Israel, it's Jews they can't stand.

"How can American Jews be Democrats first and Jewish second?" (paraphrasing for clarity)

Really?

By that pretzel logic, I can state:

Steve King is a mortal.
All pig fuckers are mortal.
Steve King is a pig fucker.

Be careful, Steve.
Senator Ernst likes to cut the nuts off of pigs.
Don't get caught for being too close for too long next to your pig, Steve!!!

You're kind of stupid.
Not in a can't live on your own way, more like a "needs careful consideration to get some of the jokes on Gilligan's"s Island" sort of thing.

Overall the majority of Jewish traditions around the our communal life are far more socialist than not. Perhaps when you speak to Jewish persons you should listen without the Jesus filter.

American Jews to varying degrees identify with the State of Israel. But fortunately, "Israel right or wrong" is not the driving theme in their cultural thinking and identity. Most American Jews are liberals and critical thinkers.
