Ralph Nader touts an expanded post office:There are 220,000 fewer postal workers now than there were just over a decade ago. In addition, postal rates have been raised, and services have been cut or scaled back There are tens of millions of unbanked Americans, whom the banks do not want, who could use postal banking Establishing an honest notary service, cashing most checks, selling fishing and hunting licenses, wrapping holiday gifts, and accepting wine or beer for delivery are just a few congressionally prohibited proposals that have been put forward by postal activists and watchdogs.

(135,425 posts)I think Ralph Nader is a motor-mouthed bullshitter nine times out of ten, but on this tenth occasion, I agree with him about postal banking.

(8,978 posts)Nader the (Bush-Cheney) enabler now thinks a Rand Paul presidency would be just fine. Perhaps he's "gone postal" in order to shift the attention away from this apparent and ill-received political transformation? By the way, as meritorious as these proposals to expand USPS service might be, they are nothing new. Nader should spare the distractions and explain to us once again why we should be supporting Rand Paul.

(8,978 posts)Nader siphoned more than a few away votes from Gore, rendering the Florida contest close enough to steal. Without Nader, the race would have never been contested to begin with, let alone reach the SCOTUS.

(12,081 posts)fighting to end the tax that has led to the post office's demise? Why aren't they fighting to increase funding? Why aren't they addressing the fact that low income and small businesses for that matter depend on the post office? Where are the Democrats? Oh, yeah. They are sitting on their butts accepting lobbying money and accepting cuts to social services under the guise of "bipartisanship" and "compromise". Fuck that.

(12,081 posts)small business owners who need the post office? Okay. At least I know where you stand. Geez. I'm glad I'm not a Democrat anymore.

(2,169 posts)the infrastructure is there- much better than eBay when it comes to dispute resolution. When a postal inspector with a gun and badge comes to the door it gets more attention than another email.
It would be perfect- forcing eBay to be competitive and giving USPS new streams of revenue and usefulness.
