(9,090 posts)is based on rw radio - KKOB in NM - and that is a station that would go belly up if the uni of NM was pressured into rereading its mission statement, forgoing the few thousand it makes every year in radio licensing revenue, and then declare it will not renew it's contract with KKOB and will look for apolitical alternatives for broadcasting its sports.
martinez is gov in large part because KKOB was able to fly the lobos flag for 20 years while sliming richardson (much more than he was) and then unjustly tar and feather denesh with him. the crap they were blasting the state with worked, like with so many issues they win on.
Dont call me Shirley
(10,998 posts)At least we have 1350AM. And much of the state is still liberal. The concern is the stealing of elections by duran.
And yes, they did smear BR and DD overtly. The local tv channels were so lovingly complicit in this also.

IMO a lot of local tv political content in most states follows the talk radio buzz/example in a lot of ways- for instance the ability of meteorologists to reference global warming- and is mostly much much tamer and less frequent
another thing about tv is it's harder to find qualified loons to look right into the camera and lie and be so ignorant
Dont call me Shirley
(10,998 posts)It puts me in a state of uproar.
Then we have the local tv news with trollface. Even NM in Focus is focused in the right wing message.
certainot
(9,090 posts)any time kkob sells the ALEC/koch/GOP agenda under the lobos flag- which is every time they open their mouths.
other local media, probably tired of being intimidated by them, would notice, and so would their local advertisers.
the station might also be a good place to protest -i think its right across from the ABQ jail.
Dont call me Shirley
(10,998 posts)Maybe a Breaking Bad pizza tossing, with protest messages written on the pies in pepperoni, at WisePies Arena. LOL

(7,499 posts)Same words, but of course Kansas was the state named. I was so freaking heart sick and shattered after the election, seeing that bumper sticker brought me to tears. I left a note on the car's windshield thanking the owner and saying I was right there with him/her. Tough times made a bit easier by good people willing to fight the good fight.

Because he is

(36,063 posts)I expect no apologies from DUers on this, ever. But it's important to give the muck shovelers an opportunity at education. That way we'll know their insults are intentional rather than simply made in ignorance.
Re the danger of Walker...Walker is as dangerous as a smart-mouthed punk surrounded by a gang. Walker with a divided Congress could really do NOTHING that he has done in WI.
Frankly any one of a number of tea-party governors and a few current senators would be just as dangerous.
Anyone one of them as executive -and- with majority control of congress would be ruinous to federal authority and regulatory protections.
NoJusticeNoPeace
(5,018 posts)can with him as the stooge.
Republican party has made it clear with the budget that they insist rich people dont have enough and the poorest of the poor have too much.
Anywhere else this would move the population to a violent overthrow, but Americans are still too comfortable, but that isnt going to last much longer.
I am AGAINST a violent overthrow which is why I want drastic non violent action now
HereSince1628
(36,063 posts)With the Kochs backing Walker, the republican primary will be something like the clash of the Titans. I'm not sure the Kochs can win that with Walker as their champion, but he might be made VP.
The financial woes his governance has created are building here. As he has all his life, his m.o. is move on before accountability can catch him

(26,549 posts)If a politician can't get voters to turn out, that is the politician's fault.
HereSince1628
(36,063 posts)A serious problem in WI is the narrowness between support for the two parties. ALL of Walker's wins could be reversed with a 3% swing of the vote. That narrowness can be overcome by a handful of disenfranchisement techniques, and outright theft. And the evidence in the vote reporting puts outright theft on the table.
I think WIdem being able to only come up with a former DC lobbyist who defended off-shoring jobs and brought in anti-union Bill Clinton in a state fighting for jobs and union rights created a problem. It might have marginally helped get voter turnout in urban areas where Clinton was popular but it turned off many others.
And, -that- made the election close enough to be decided by what can't be told apart from cheating.
It's too complicated for me to put a finger on where the blame really gets assigned
jeff47
(26,549 posts)When turnout is that low, a 3% "stolen" rate could be easily overcome by 10% higher turnout.
It doesn't matter what the specific problem was. It was the candidate's job to overcome that problem. That doesn't mean it's possible to overcome - it might not be. Still their problem to try and solve.
HereSince1628
(36,063 posts)Our alternatives, limited as they were, included the heroic, and the charismatic, really they didn't want to get into it.
What emerged was poor options and, imho, the winner of the primary was person who I think knew she really couldn't win, but who must be respected for having the courage to step into a yawning void.

They are into their churches, more conservative on social issues. But this guy is really threatening jobs and they have finally caught on. There is a photo of a little kid peeing on a Walker sign that is making the rounds on my friend's pages on Facebook.

(3,974 posts)My favorite bumper sticker/sign was a hand-made one I saw on a car in Madison back in 2011. It said: "I Don't Need Sex, I Get Screwed by Walker Every Day". That one would take the time to make that and drive around with it on display shows just how deeply people here despise Walker.
