Irish senator: Mother's Day will be banned if LGBT marriage is allowed

WTF here

In a remarkable display of cluelessness, a Senator from the Republic of Ireland has proven that not only the U.S. has very confused homophobic politicians in it.

From the article:

However, independent senator Fidelma Healy Eames – who was stripped of the Fine Gael whip in 2013 – tweeted a stark warning on Mother’s Day.

She claimed: “Happy Mothers’ day all! Hope we can continue to celebrate it after #SSM passed. In some US states Mothers & Father’s Day banned #pcgonemad”

To my knowledge, 0 American states have dropped observations of Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day. Also, polls reflect that in Ireland, as in the U.S., the majority of the general public actually support marriage equality. So, I'm not sure where she's getting her data. I'm sure Tuesday (St. Patrick's Day) will be a lot of fun without her anyway.

that had 'Parents' Day' instead; and a private New York Jewish school that did something specifically Jewish instead.

She broke with her former party because she thought embryos and fetuses should have legal representation in (incredibly rare) abortion cases in Ireland:

The Seanad's preparing to vote on the abortion bill.

The bill's expected to pass this afternoon, but with at least two Fine Gael senators voting against it.

Fine Gael's Fidelma Healy Eames has said she believes the bill is unconstitutional because it doesn't allow legal representation for the unborn.

She added that she was disappointed with Fine Gael for breaching its pro-life election promise.

So I think she really was serious about Mothers' Day.
