I wish luck to those who are in areas not serviced by this company.

(1,941 posts)Surprised that they're switching from only American Express CREDIT card (they take almost any debit card) to Visa and Citicorp - but that's OK.
Although I did have my Costco photo ID on the American Express card. Anyone know if you'll have to get a special Visa card for Costco, or will ANY Visa card do?

(53,661 posts)Because the balances will be carried over. At what interest rate, I don't know. I'm trying hard to pay it off because I'm likely to go to cash only or pay it per month to escape Citi from now on out at COSTCO.
VISA has never given my any hassle. But I helped an elderly woman with her Citi account and it was full of charges, even though she had not used it for years, and trying to close the account was almost impossible.
They kept billing for an annual fee (American Express and VISA have none, or at least they haven't for me) even though we tried to pay the 'late' annual fee and then close the account down. They kept adding penalties and refused to listen to us.
Finally turned it over to her daughter who was able to get rid of the account, which I legally couldn't do for her. I want nothing to do with Citi, ever. I hope they offer a choice, although I'm betting it will still be exclusive to COSTCO because of the balance transfer. I will be going to COSTCO less now and have stopped using my American Express card for anything else, to escape the fees I feel sure are coming, whatever they do.

(3,974 posts)Currently, the Costco branded AMEX card gives some extra rewards benefits, but any AMEX card can be used. In the future, we can use any Visa card at Costco, but the Costco branded Citi Visa will have some Costco specific rewards/benefits. I didn't want to have to get a Citi card, so I was relieved to find out that won't be necessary.

(1,941 posts)My "branded" AmEx card from Costco charges me a $50 Annual Fee. Yeah, I get 3% back on all gas purchases and 2% on something else (restaurants maybe) - but it's not worth the $50 annual fee. And quite a few places won't even take AmEx cards.
