The Montana State Fund celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Montana Workers Compensation Act during a ceremony Thursday in the state Capitol rotunda, but one of the states largest labor unions skipped the event in protest.
AFL-CIO boycotted the event, stating in a press release that Organized labors opposition to this event stems from the Montana State Funds active role in attacking workers, not honoring them.
Annie Glover, director of communications for the Montana Department of Labor and Industry, declined to comment on the boycott.
State Fund President Laurence Hubbard and Labor Commissioner Pam Bucy spoke at the event, touting 2011 reforms to workers compensation and celebrating the history of workers in the state.
