Betty Davison Dorr, who devoted much of her life to encouraging equality for gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual people, died Saturday in Omaha with family and friends close by.
Dorr, 77, was past president of the Omaha chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays and was a part of the United Methodist Churchs debate on gender issues in Omaha and nationally.
Robert Dorr, her husband of 57 years, said his wife died from an aggressive form of cancer that was detected after she had chest pains only 21 days earlier.
Dorr, a retired World-Herald reporter, said his wife became a gay rights advocate when the couples youngest son, Michael, revealed that he was gay. She worked especially with parents regarding their childrens sexual orientation.
