(12,017 posts)but today we were discussing it and it seems you cannot make a phone call with this one either... it has to be tethered to a phone nearby...

(34,648 posts)I'm going to save up and wait until the second model. I'm not above buying me a computer watch. I've wanted one since I was a little kid. Had a calculator watch back in sixth grade. A gift for straigh A's in my gifted program. I lost that watch. maybe this can make up for the loss.

(94,950 posts)the 1st gen of the iPhone and iPad were great leaps of technology, but the 2nd gen made both of them solid choices. I'll wait till next year's update.
The big unknown: will third party providers come up with watch bands to "upgrade" the Apple Watch Sport model?

(34,648 posts)I would be. Nothing wrong with trying to capture some of the money going to apple.

(14,807 posts)you can take phone calls or text. You can monitor your heart rate. Good for people on heart meds and such. I like it. Makes sense. Thought I would hate it at first but I understand the market they are going for. I would like one.

(12,017 posts)the watch only has wifi and bluetooth... no cell capabilities.
i'm not buying one so i have not looked deeply into it... but that is my current understanding and until i read otherwise or one of the guys at work shows up with one without a phone and makes a call...

(14,807 posts)good for people in meetings and maybe other situations. I am not buying one since I don't even have a regular cell phone! lol! I think it is intriguing though.

(12,017 posts)i am just not sure the price is right yet. essentially, at a minimum, your iPhone/Watch combination jumps to about $900...
it should be fun to see where the 'wearable' tech trends in the coming years.

(65,616 posts)probably nobody would steal it. It looks like a 30 dollar watch from a chain retail store. You would probably have to start talking to it, to get the attention so badly craved.
I have a nice X-shock watch, but I rarely wear them...why would I? I have a Samsung note 3 that i carry around in my pocket.

(4,569 posts)There's lots of Phone snatchers who will ask the time and snatch your phone when you take it out of your pocket to check..........And these same people will have no problem trying to snatch the watch off your wrist......Just sayin'

That's a lot of scratch!

(19,569 posts)I know people do it, but I don't. If I had that kind of money laying about, I'd try to invest it toward my retirement.
I don't even wear a watch, and never have. I use my phone to know the time when I need it, and there's not enough new in one of these devices to entice me to spend even the lowest amount on one yet. Besides, and I'm not trying to to be shallow, I think they're unattractive. Which I realize will shift after/if they catch on for many people, but still I don't want to wear one of those things right now. However, my friend has been spinning in her seat waiting for them to come out. So, the market is out there.

(54,502 posts)Watching an apple is way too boring, and, from the sound of it, far more expensive.

(1,695 posts)The price is just too high for me. I like Apple products, thought. My iPhone & iPad have entertained me through many a long wait.
If it comes down I'll look at purchasing one. I'm intetested in incorporating it into my daily gym workouts.

(10,926 posts)the most accurate watch in the world with a smooth sweeping second hand.
For $549, you can have a Suunto Ambit 2 with a telemetry strap, which measures most vitals plus has GPS and a whole infrastructure to support health and wellness.
For $10,000, you can have your choice of several Glashutte models, made by hand to exacting specifications and which with care will still work 500 years from now on the wrist of someone 25 generations in the future.
These pieces of shit from Apple will be in junk drawers a year from now.
