(62,477 posts)It was bad for Clinton. With Obama that was just the starting point.
No doubt the racism is no longer disguised and those spewing it are just vile.
But I believe this will only be the starting point for the next "other" - that is not a white, male, rich and let me add protestant christian.
Hate is what they do and they have a long history and plenty of practice.

(10,597 posts)... well heck, I guess we don't have to. Look what they are doing to Hillary already, and she hasn't even declared that she's running yet! It is definitely worrying to see such public venom, bigotry and hate spilled over politics. Seems like free speech has turned into free hate if a WASP isn't promoted and elected.

(81,565 posts)Already, we'd not seen racism - in these times - as we've seen, at ITS most vile, after we elected a black President. It's as though the facade of tolerance was ripped away to show the oozing infected shit underneath in all its "glory."
It's been really discouraging. And the acting-out has continued ever since they woke up one day in late January 2009 and realized their worst fears had been realized. It's only grown worse since then. Seems as though the longer that contingent has to face the fact that there's STILL a black guy in the Oval Office and he isn't the janitor, despite their most desperate wishes that he'd either go away or be driven out or otherwise cease to exist, they've acted out worse and worse. And stinkier and shittier and louder and more vicious.
Because they're basically arrested-development types. Still five-years-old, spoiled, coddled brats throwing temper tantrums in public because they didn't get their way. Or trying every which way to cheat or get around the system because they still expect to get their way. Unfortunately, these brats are adult-size.

(6,931 posts)From the "Leaders" of the Republican party. They are giving all of it their consent and support by remaining silent.
As long as they do not speak out rebuke and remove these people from their meetings, gatherings wherever they are present they are joining them and are as guilty as the speakers or the people with their racist signs.
How many elected Republican officials were present in Selma Alabama today? Can anyone name any?
Their absence speaks very loudly to me. Someone needs to tell Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson and a few others that they are as responsible for the murders of Black men and children as are the police officers and citizens who do so daily. Their silence on this is blood on their hands.

(9,298 posts)I just finished reading David Brock's Blinded By the Right. Outright psychosis has been rampant in the Republican party for a very long time, fueled by hate and ignorance. It's very discouraging and depressing, but like Barack said yesterday, "The work is never done."
