No doubt, the good old USA has a lot of damn problems to address! We are a violent country.

I don't think we even get an accurate reporting of all the American Citizens the police murder each year.
We live in a very primitive, violent culture.

(62,325 posts)an indictment wasn't forthcoming, the Federal Govt intervened and did issue indictments. It was very bad back then, but compared to how it is today, it looks almost like some justice was possible.
Now, there is ZERO chance of a murderous cop being indicted at all.

(22,457 posts)Youre more likely to be murdered simply by living in about half of the largest cities in America than you are while working as a police officer.
So their paranoia is not justified.
They tend to shoot at any possible threat instead of trying to deal with it in another way. And that is because there is never a downside to shooting first.

(16,204 posts)Only special units are armed with guns. That said, I agree that we can be a violent society, but am actually amazed that we aren't more violent given the growing inequality in our society.

The big problem here is the circular argument: "He was trying to get my gun! So he was a deadly threat! Therefore, I was justified in killing him with my gun!"
