I don't expect anything to come of this investigation, but to say it will be months before they discuss it is ludicrous.
It also concerns the Miami chapter of the ACLU.
FHP: Could be months before details in Stretch Taser incident released; Agency won't reveal any information about why elderly man was hit with stun gun
The Florida Highway Patrol has not -- and likely will not for months -- release any more details relating to an incident in which one of its troopers in February stun-gunned an elderly man who stood outside of his vehicle with his hands raised on the 18-Mile Stretch.
That trooper, whose identity the FHP has not released, is on "alternative leave." The incident was videotaped by someone in another car on the stretch of U.S. 1 connecting Key Largo to Florida City. Very little information is known about what led up to the trooper shooting the man with the stun gun.
...The 59-year-old man was taken into custody "under the provisions of Florida's Baker Act," Rasmussen said last week. The law allows police officers to hold a person in custody who may be a danger to him or herself.
....Nancy Abudu, legal director of the Miami chapter to the American Civil Liberties Union, said she is concerned the FHP plans to wait so long to release more information regarding the case. The video speaks for itself, she said.
"By the optics alone, we're not seeing the clear and present danger here," Abudu said.
Here's the video taken by someone in another car.

There's a formula.

While his arms are raised, another trooper shoots the man with his Taser stun gun. The man yells and falls to the ground before he is handcuffed."
I see him get out with both hands up, cop grabs his right arm which throws him off balance so he raises it up again to get balanced and zap.
"struggles for a moment" to get his balance, yes, but does not struggle to get away from the cops.
The framing of this statement is amazing.

(88,117 posts)It does take time...months in fact. Longer when the video makes things so obvious. Truth seldom takes as long.
