I believe the Republican Party is the Party of Wall Street power and the 1% while the Democratic Party is the party that represents ordinary working people
1 (13%) |

I believe the differences between the two parties and whose interest they represent are marginal at best
3 (38%) |

I believe both parties represent Wall Street Power and the 1% - but the Republicans are so batshit crazy, so ideologically extreme about it in addition to their socially reactionary views and their dangerous neoconservative foreign policy that they make the Democrats relatively liberal and progressive in comparison
4 (50%) |

Malt vinegar is preferable to catsup when serving proper French Fries or chips and mushy peas is a better side dish to fish and chips than cole slaw

(14,733 posts)I would add the changes below
There are certainly actual liberal and progressive elected Democrats, although not nearly enough, and when you ask the rank and file about all sorts of liberal or progressive ideas, they are far more in agreement with liberal and progressive ideals, but as has been shown in an actual study, elected officials of both parties are almost always more conservative than the people they supposedly represent.

(99,719 posts)Both parties have to work within a capitalist superstructure that affects every relationship. The Democrats do their best to bend it on behalf of the have nots or have not so muchs, the Republicans not at all.

(72,790 posts)And both parties have contributed to this country's decline, imo. I don't think the two-party system works anymore since it's pretty much one-sided against the common American.
I generally support Democratic policies since they align more with my personal views, but I am not a huge fan of the current state of the Democratic party.

(32,139 posts)Both parties are owned by the One Percent, corporate interests. The parties deliberately diverge on social issues that are important to people but which the One Percent could not care less about, in order to blackmail people into voting for the predatory economic, war, and police state agenda that the One Percent DO care about and that the parties deliberately share.

Yes, that's certainly the Lesser of Two Evils Scam that corporatists in both parties keep using on us.
Red vs. Blue = Oligarchy Theater for the masses.
Mass spying on Americans? Both parties support it.
Handing the internet to corporations? Both parties support it.
Austerity for the masses? Both parties support it.

BUT, we are reminded by sneering corporate Democrats, Republicans will do all of this to us, too, PLUS inflict transvaginal ultrasounds!
What a vicious scam by both parties to justify relentless, predatory evil. To demand that we vote for our own sellout and exploitation and the dismantling of our democracy itself.

Preheat a large heavy skillet over medium heat for 3 minutes.
Coat salmon with olive oil. Place in skillet, and increase heat to high. Cook for 3 minutes. Sprinkle with capers, and salt and pepper. ...
Transfer salmon to individual plates, and garnish with lemon slices.

(14,733 posts)It's just too strong a taste. I far prefer a good cod or flounder, or tilapia. Orange Roughy was my fave, back before I found out they bottom-trawled for it, destroying the sea-bed ecosystems.

(6,568 posts)The other night, I went to Publix to get Tilapia. I ask the fishmonger for a lb of tilapia. It was loud and busy. I turned away while she was packaging it up and didn't bother to check. Got home and realized that she gave me salmon (at salmon prices of course). Apparently, she misheard me. Too late, I thought. I cooked the salmon the way I was gonna do the tilapia. It wasn't terrible, but I'd have rathered tilapia or mahi.

(86,900 posts)However, I do think that both parties are corrupted to the point of a near total collapse of the nation in our near future... that includes more 9/11 type attacks to make sure we still need a "leader" to protect/save us from the consequences of our past actions as a warring nation.

(20,942 posts)gets a little dull after awhile. Pushing helplessness doesn't motivate people to want political change it only motivates people to disengage from the process. Disengaged people lead to elections like last year. I listen and watch enough democrats to know many have solid integrity and care about the Americans that they represent. The most conservative Democratic candidates still seem to care about the process of governance in America.
The Republican party has enough disunity inside which demonstrates that while conservatives in the 1% have major influence on legislators, they clearly all don't want the same thing. What would improve American politics... a Republican party that cares about Governance. Will that happen anytime soon? I don't know. I honestly can't understand how 99.999% of Republicans get elected. They simply have nothing to offer their voters and more to the point do not even act like they want to be in office.
