don't spend too many months insulting them.

(52,589 posts)Candidates need volunteers after they get through primaries.
The people who have chosen to run for public office have put themselves out there and know that criticism is a foregone conclusion.
Voters should not expect to be insulted simply for preferring a different candidate.
It does not go both ways and it is not ironic.
For it to go both ways, it would have to be this;
"If you want your candidate for President to rally around people, the candidate shouldn't spend too many months insulting them."
I GUESS that could be possible, yet it is not very ironic.

(41,832 posts)I read it as if you insult for example Sanders supporters, then you shouldn't expect those supporters to support your candidate.
THe irony is that Hillary supporters take 10 times the insults.
So that is why I wrote what I did.

(65,616 posts)That is true, I really don't even see anyone attacking Warren or Sanders on DU. Just HRC.

(14,255 posts)who else are us "fucking retards" gonna vote for? I think being able to count on that is nearing its shelf life. As, hopefully, Rahm himself may soon find out. It will take a great deal of money and bullying for him to win the run-off, methinks.
Gee, when it takes so much money and so much bullying and insulting to get people to vote for a candidate, wouldn't it occur to anyone that perhaps the problem is the candidate? But then, this is what happens when the candidate is pre-selected, IMO.
Some days it seems like the Hillary camp is running the Democratic Party like Procrustes ran his inn - fit in the bed, or get your feet chopped off.

(24,123 posts)Really makes you stop and wonder what's wrong with Hillary as a candidate that some here - certainly not all - act that way.
Hillary reflects so much of what's wrong with this country, with her corporate leanings and hawkish foreign policy positions. Indeed, out of the two dozen or so of my closest friends and relatives - all of whom, but one "misguided unfortunate," are registered Democrats - only FOUR are (mildly) pro-Hillary; the rest are vehemently opposed to her candidacy for all the valid reasons espoused here.
Even though that's a small sample size, it does make me wonder how her poll numbers, while starting to fall, are still relatively high. Could it be simply because, as of right now, that is no perceived viable affirmative?
I'm not sure, but this much I do know: Hillary has to seriously step up her game upon declaring her candidacy, especially as the front runner, where she will attract so much media attention. People are looking for a genuine candidate who can articulate issues from the heart - cough, cough... Elizabeth Warren...cough - which even Hillary's most ardent supporters must admit are not her strengths.

(14,341 posts)If you're going to participate on a political message board, toughen up, and don't expect others to kiss your behind and grovel for your support.
Insults are often met with insults, snark with snark and so on...

(52,589 posts)Can't debate candidates and their positions without personal insults to the voter?

(41,832 posts)As I said, insults are often met with insults, snark with snark, etc...
Works both ways.
Whether someone does or doesn't get on board as a result of what gets posted here seems odd to me, I suppose. I certainly don't expect anyone around here to grovel for my support while I continue to hurl insults at them left and right.

(45,319 posts)I'd explain, but I have no desire to crowd the decks with more people who understand how to advance policy positions using the primary as a tool. It's better that the slower students glom onto some personality and play that game. Keeps then out of the way of those doing actual politics.
Yep. Like when candidates drop out along the way when something becomes apparent. If they were duly offended by one's candidate's supporters, it's doubtful that's where they throw their support among the remaining candidates.

(861 posts)support her are handing the election to the republicans or are supporting the republican candidate, assuming Hillary is the nominee, while others say it doesn't matter because the non-Hillary fans are such a small part, such an insignificant number, that who they might vote for and support doesn't matter.
Can't have it both ways....
