Federal regulators are proposing $75,240 in new penalties against Omaha framing company Affordable Exteriors, saying the business has repeatedly failed to provide workers with fall protection.
An October 2014 investigation of a residential construction project in Elkhorn found five employees working more than 12 feet off the ground without adequate fall protection, the U.S. Department of Labors Occupational Safety and Health Administration said. OSHA requires fall protection for construction workers 6 feet or more above the next lower level.
OSHA said it was the seventh time in 10 years the company failed to provide fall protection.
Most recently, in December 2014, OSHA cited the firm for two willful violations also related to fall protection, after four of its employees in June 2014 were exposed to fall hazards while completing a residential roofing job for another homebuilding company. The violations carry proposed penalties of $140,000 and landed Affordable Exteriors on the agencys Severe Violator Enforcement Program.
