And when I'm on other sites like DU it suddenly cuts me off whatever I'm reading and opens up the goddamn App Store to force me to look at some stupid ad. If the govt. wants people to live with this sort of intrusive bullshit and tolerate limits on the functionality of an iPad because it's recent,I think it's time to get a class action lawsuit goin or toss all the air out.

(1,967 posts)Not browser hijacking per say, since I have javascript turned off, but with pages not loading. I think this site gets a lot of attacks from disgruntled hackers who are political operatives.

(6,568 posts)Never had this issue unless the site in question has an app available. In which case, that's the mobile coding in the site sending sending you to the app store, not the iPad itself.
For instance, a particular guitar site I frequent has it's own app (which costs like $5). When I go to that site for the first time after opening Safari, it instantly takes me to the app store telling me to buy the app. I prefer just to navigate the site, so I close the app store.
Once again, it's the websites you go to and their coding, NOT the iPad.

(38,023 posts)I'm guessing what's happening is that your are being redirected to the App Store because you are using a mobile-type device. If you go into your "My Account" settings on DU (at the top of the page on the right) you can look under "Options" and choose a "Standard" or "Classic" browsing experience for your iPad.
EDIT ADD: As for other sites, I think if you look around after being redirected, you'll find a menu or choice to view that site as a webpage as opposed to a mobile page.

(567 posts)Only on two of my bookmarked news sites forums though. When activated it would relentlessly open a link to a children's game at the App Store. Its finally gone though after a recent update to Chrome. Another problem I have with iPad is that Chrome and Safari both frequently crash on the theguardian.com/us.
