RIP Mr. White Sox, The Cuban Comet... Minnie Minoso

Minoso was a seven-time All-Star whose combination of speed and power led a White Sox revival in the 1950s.

In his later years, the colorful Minoso, much like Ernie Banks with the Cubs, served as one of the team’s top goodwill ambassadors. “I'm proud of everything,” Minoso said of his career. “I'm proud to be a baseball player.”

The White Sox issued a statement that began, "Mr. White Sox has died."

My dad loved to talk about cutting school and sneaking into Sox games to watch Minnie Minoso. I loved hearing the way he talked about his childhood and the Sox.

I never saw him play but I know he made so many southsiders happy. Including my father and his two older brothers.

For Minnie and my dad.

to watch him pinch hit (at age 49 or 50) against the Angels. My dad (an avowed Braves fan who then had to change to the Brewers) said,"That there is greatness."

we always had a game on the radio at our house. I didn't know much about baseball as a kid except that Banks hit a lot of homers and Minnie Minoso had one of the coolest names I ever heard.
As I grew, I learned he, too, was one heck of a ballplayer.

50's and 60's, it could only be Minnie Minoso.
Thanks for the memories Minnie!

I remember listening to Sox games with Bob Elson announcing back in the 1950s and 1960s when I was a kid. We only got Sox and Cardinal games on the radio down here in the deep south before the Braves moved to Atlanta. Minoso was one of the best left fielders in the game back then, and one of the best ever. Does anyone know why he isn't in the Hall?
