Saw an elderly woman trying to make it out to her car with her groceries and decided to give her a hand. I stopped traffic for her and walked with her to her car. Helped her get her stuff into the trunk and noticed she had a large "Trust Women - Protect Choice" bumper sticker. Told her I liked her sticker. She said "When women won't have sex with these anti-choice assholes we'll be OK." She thanked me profusely me and we hugged. She was, at least, 80. Very cool old woman.

A lot of us old broads are cool that way. We remember. Never again!

Never again!

(297,935 posts)I was in high school at the time of Roe v. Wade. Age 15. I was being raised Catholic at the time but I knew that was the right decision. I do remember. My break with Catholicism was over choice. My parents hated it and couldn't get over it but I cannot live with a lie.

(297,935 posts)She really inspired me with her spirit! It is always cool to meet a like-minded person but my encounter with this "little old lady" was especially awesome. We need to educate and inspire more young women to get with the program!

Not dictated by men pandering to the "religious right".. but, between her and her doctor.
That is exactly how I feel about it.
She knows. And she is strong enough to be vocal about it with her sticker.
It is either Pro-choice or No-choice!
I don't want to go back to the days of botched back-alley abotions.
Fun fact: If my younger sister was in a car accident and desperately needed a blood transfusion to live, and I was the only person on Earth who could donate blood to save her, and even though donating blood is a relatively easy, safe, and quick procedure no one can force me to give blood. Yes, even to save the life of a fully grown person, it would be ILLEGAL to FORCE me to donate blood if I didnt want to.
See, we have this concept called bodily autonomy. Its this cultural notion that a persons control over their own body is above all important and must not be infringed upon.
Like, we cant even take LIFE SAVING organs from CORPSES unless the person whose corpse it is gave consent before their death. Even corpses get bodily autonomy.
To tell people that they MUST sacrifice their bodily autonomy for 9 months against their will in an incredibly expensive, invasive, difficult process to save what YOU view as another human life (a debatable claim in the early stages of pregnancy when the VAST majority of abortions are performed) is desperately unethical. You cant even ask people to sacrifice bodily autonomy to give up organs they arent using anymore after they have died.
Youre asking people who can become pregnant to accept less bodily autonomy than we grant to dead bodies.

Excellent choice arguments there.
