The Russian President is vowing to find and punish the killers of prominent opposition figure Boris Nemtsov.
The former deputy prime minister was shot dead as he was walking close to the Kremlin by a gunman in a passing vehicle.
Nemtsov was a major critic of Vladimir Putin and was due to lead a rally against the war in Ukraine on Sunday.
A spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin, said: We have several lines of inquiry. First of all, of course, is the possibility that the murder could be a provocation to destabilise the political situation in Russia.

(49,445 posts)1) Putin gets to this right after all the gum is scraped off of all of the underside of all of the furniture in all the police stations in all of Russia;
2) The "perpetrators" will turn out to be other opposition figures that get killed resisting arrest. Oh darn, right?

"Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko himself put forward the theory on Saturday. "He said he would reveal persuasive evidence of the involvement of Russian armed forces in Ukraine. Someone was very afraid of this ... They killed him," Poroshenko said, according to Reuters. Hes not alone. The New York Times talks to the New Times magazine editor who met with Nemtsov two weeks ago. Nemtsov reportedly told his old friend he wanted to publish a pamphlet titled Putin and the War about the countrys involvement in the Ukraine conflict. He knew the risks. He was afraid of being killed, the editor, Yevgenia Albats, said. And he was trying to convince himself, and me, they wouldnt touch him.
