Indiana Conservative ‘Christian’ Calls For Letting Poor People ‘Wither And Die’

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/06/11/indiana-conservative-christian-calls-letting-poor-people-wither-die/

Johnston wrote:

“For almost three generations people, in some cases, have been given handouts. They have been ‘enabled’ so much that their paradigm in life is simply being given the stuff of life, however meager. What you see is a setting for a life of misery is life to them never-the-less. No one has the guts to just let them wither and die. No one who wants votes is willing to call a spade a spade. As long as the Dems can get their votes the enabling will continue. The Republicans need their votes and dare not cut the fiscal tether. It is really a political Catch-22… People simply are not hurting enough, or simply happy enough that they will do nothing. Consequently the dole continues.”

Even the Old Testament talks about how the poor are to be treated; let alone the New Testament. Neither says anything about letting the poor "wither and die".

This idiot might want to think very carefully about what he is wishing for. If he thinks the poor will just "wither and die" quietly, he may be in for a very ugly surprise.

all the huge, corporate welfare queens who have been used to huge take breaks and handouts for decades.

"For blessed are the corporations and their shareholders for they shall own the Earth and have full dominion over all profits, and their Republican minions shall rule over the private parts of the masses. Yay, even unto the end of the biosphere shall they take all there is to take for as it is said, why ask why, and who wanteth to know? For the Lord shall renovate and renew their holy gentrification and bring the developments of Heaven to bless again their holdings. And he said unto them upon the magic screens, I'm lovin' it." Book of Derivatives 9:23.

that they plan to cull the herd in a big way, albeit passively rather than with gas chambers and ovens. Those are messy. Letting people just die off one at a time is cheaper and easier to implement. Jebus would approve, I am sure.

Typical of todays Christians these days.

Perhaps this Christian is a lone wolf Christian and his views and ideas do not reflect any other Christian on the planet earth, I don't know I am not Christian but if I were I sure would do something about Christians like that before Christians get a bad name.

Who am I kidding, nothing at all will be done about Christians like him so I guess he will just be the new Christian spokes person.

Andy Warhol did say everyone will get their 15 minutes of fame, until the next Christian comes along and does or says something just a Christian as he did.

I may practice a more earthy, Native American-ish way of spiritual living, but I admire Jesus.

I seek to be the person he and other prophets called us to be.

But there are too many cretins like Johnston purporting to "speak for god."

God already spoke: "Feed my sheep."

This is why popes and bishops and TV evangelists have no credibility. All of the Christans, or all of the Jews or all of the Muslims could cure poverty. Everyone could eat if the religious wanted to make it happen.

If Jesus mentioned poverty and caring for the poor hundreds of times, yet never mentioned homosexuality, for example, why isn't the Pope raising absolute holy freaking hell over the starvation in Africa and other areas? If he were really the "voice of god," as Jesus allegedly was, wouldn't the pope prioritize in the same way?

A true voice of god would not rest til every baby was well and every belly was full. He or she would not be calling some people Nazis because of whom they choose to love.

No true god cares about the sex lives of consenting, loving, adult couples of our day.

Any true god would be enraged over the starving, the withering and the dying of our day. The imprisoning. The exploiting. The raping. The enslavement.

Wither and die, indeed. It's Christians like Johnston who will cause his own faith to wither and die. Humans are meant to care about one another.

You have a program to help the homeless. Bob becomes homeless. Gets aid. After awhile he isn't homeless.

Then, Jane loses her home/job. Same thing.

There has been and always will be someone homeless, since the dawn of time. How we help them transition says a lot about us - and those who say 'well, helping them hasn't solved homelessness' is just stupid, because it has.

It is like saying "We should stop fighting crime because nothing we have done has stopped it."

... When someone steals another's clothes, we call them a thief. Should we not give the same name to one who could clothe the naked and does not? The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry; the coat unused in your closet belongs to the one who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the one who has no shoes; the money which you hoard up belongs to the poor ...
