I had leftovers with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy drenching both.
My belly is happy as can be! Oh, and turkey. 
I still have enough for the obligatory and delicious turkey sandwiches next week!
but I was handed a jar that contained, not flour, but powdered sugar.
Could not get the gravy to thicken up. It was pissing me off, I ended up dumping the jar into the gravy, about a cup or so, and then opened a new bag of flour which thickened the gravy up instantly.
I served the gravy not knowing I had put sugar into it. What do you know, with the exception of me, who thought it was way too sweet, everyone loved it. It finally dawned on me halfway through the meal how the gravy had gotten so sweet. There was not a drop left though.. Go figure
You can bet that even though it went over well I'll be tasting everything I put into it next year

I watched this awhile back; not that I had any interest in the subject, I just like Chris Rocks comedy.
Two things stuck out for me...
One, the lengths, trouble and torture these woman will put themselves through.
Two, just how expensive some of this shit can get.

The film focuses on the issue of how African-American women have perceived their hair and historically styled it. The film explores the current styling industry for black women, images of what is considered acceptable and desirable for African-American women's hair in the United States, and their relation to African American culture.[3]
Themes
Rock explores why black women adopt so many different styles for their hair. Techniques designed to straighten hair appear to be intended to give it characteristics of European (or "white"
hair. Other styles create elaborate designs related to African traditions and recent innovations in fashion. Rock is quoted as saying, “I knew women wanted to be beautiful, but I didn’t know the lengths they would go to, the time they would spend – and not complain about it. In fact, they appear to look forward to it.
Nia Long says, "There’s always this sort of pressure within the black community like, if you have good hair, you’re prettier or better than the brown-skinned girl that wears the Afro or the dreads or the natural hairstyle."
In Jeannette Catsoulis' review of the film, she notes that Rock questions why African-American women adopt a concept of "beauty" that is not based on the natural characteristics of their hair. Some endure sometimes-painful hair treatments in order to achieve this definition of beauty. If the treatments, such as hair relaxers, are done improperly, they can cause hair loss or burns on the scalp. (Similarly and paradoxically, many ethnic European or Asian women with straight hair get permanents to curl their hair, and are at risk for similar burns and hair damage. Fashion has always involved manipulation of image, whether body, face or hair.)

I had the good fortune to have a nice holiday this year; we rolled all our holidays into one on Dec. 21. I think what really made it for me was doing up for the grandkids, of which we have only two. The 3 year old picked two wrapped packages, put them in the middle of the floor, and ran around them in circles. Among other things, I got the grands each a soft plushy throw/blanket; the 3 y.o. wrapped his around his shoulders like a little prince, then laid it on the floor and rolled himself up in it like a burrito. It doesn't get better.
My chronic depression has lifted some since the autumn -- I'm wary of saying that, afraid I'll jinx myself -- some things in my life seem to be moving forward, and that helps a lot. It enabled me to not only suddenly ask the family over (small family) but follow through and what is more to enjoy it.
And DU is just this habit I can't or won't break. Having already "done" Christmas/Hannukkah on the 21st, I actually spent Xmas Eve cruising DU, contributing very little in the way of comments, but saying "Hi" to my friends every so often. Mostly I skipped over OP after OP, going "stupid, stupid, stupid" in my head. It was just not bringing me down for once.
Don't let DU bring you down. It's not real the way it used to be. There are people I would really miss if I quit, like you, but they are few and far between in GD.
I have begun to wonder if there is some way those of us who want civility and boundaries could create a Group on the order of the BOG and AA to discuss "Politics 2015 And Beyond". The Forums now lack both civility and boundaries and there is little enforcement of either. Groups are smaller, more tightly knit, and the mods don't hesitate to kick ass. Just a thought.

When someone shows me who they are - I believe them. Their worst words, thoughts and behavior is the core of who they are.
If it is really bad - I throw people out of my personal life like garbage. That's just me though and how I approach life.

(nor do I care). All I can say is that if women want to make themselves prettier and more attractive by using hair extensions and the like, I say go for it. No objections.
