Clear Channel has many heavy metal stations.
Here's their public relations e-mail for the radio division:

(24,135 posts)Here's what my local metal station says about deranged "family man" - Ted Nugent
Throughout his lengthy career, guitar wildman Ted Nugent has reveled in the controversy and criticism that always seems to follow in his path. While there's no denying his exceptional talent on the six-string, his knack for penning arena rock anthems, or his standing as one of rock's top live acts, it's his non-musical endeavors that have caused the most condemnation from his detractors (his pro-right wing beliefs, pro-gun advocacy, appreciation of hunting animals, etc.). But by the same token, Nugent is a family man and one of the few hard rockers who has admirably stuck by his lifelong anti-drugs and -drink stance throughout his career.

(58,342 posts)I never thought Nugent had exceptional talent.
I guess there is no accounting for taste.

(4,569 posts)The two kids he gave up for adoption and never recognized until 2010??
The 2 wives he has had??
The ex-wife and kids that had to sue to get any child support??
The 17 year old he was made legal guardian of so he could fuck her??
What a fuckin' joke

He's also in a special group of musicians who have only had one "hit" over their entire career, AKA "one-hit wonders".

(33,688 posts)significant airplay in the last 20 years. The Dixie Chicks, on the other hand, are still a big time act.

(24,135 posts)he's a staple - his old stuff is still in lite rotation -
metal listeners live in the past.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)or, more accurately, not only in the past. classic rock listeners do and that's what he is. Classic heavy rock. Compared to modern metal, Terrible Ted is too soft.
And wait - where are these heavy metal stations? I'd love to hear a heavy metal station not on satellite radio. Dallas had one back in the early 80s and my local rock station has a few hours a week dedicated to metal but they inevitably fail as we are notoriously cheap and unattractive to advertisers. lol
And I have never heard Ted Nugent on them. But he's on plain old classic rock all the time.
I saw him open for Aerosmith once - he ain't all that. Then again, neither was Aerosmith when I saw them.

(24,135 posts)San Mateo, Tampa.
He has his own internet show now on Armed America Radio.
I worked in radio for several years, heavy metal stations have dwindled - but seem to be alive and well on the net and satellite.
People go to his shows - he toured last year. He ain't dead yet!
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)but has he released a new song in forever? Ugh, I doubt I could go to TN show nowadays. He'd have to be opening up for someone I find pretty spectacular - and then I'd show up late.
Lemme know when a real radio station that I can tune in while driving around town is playing Napalm Death and Carcass and Vallenfyre and Origin and Rotting Christ all day every day. I'll go get their bumper sticker for free at some promotion! lol, oh yeah, that's exactly why they hate us...
but if I hear any nu-metal on there I'm changing back to bluegrass. I already know the local jazz station sucks - they play Kenny G.
Tampa used to have a good rock station but I don't recall hearing any metal...and, to be fair, I consider Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and Metallica to be metal but they are old metal. Classic metal. The harder than rock but not like extreme metal metal. And I don't even really consider metallica to be metal on their last several albums. They just suck.
But I do have to go to Tampa often so I'll scour the channels next time I'm there...

(5,624 posts)does metal on Friday or Saturday nights. Morbid Angel, old school Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, etc. I think I even heard AxCx on there once.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)in fact, the college student who ran that show back then is the DJ on the big rock station here now who produces the Hard On Saturday Night and they play a lot of pretty good stuff - but only for 3 hours late at night. He is a very cool guy but I think he's hamstrung by the industry - he would play all good stuff all the time if they'd let him but the good stuff isn't always very radio friendly. But he gets what can get in that 3 hours and I appreciate it.
Morbid Angel is one of the headliners at the Maryland Death Fest this year. I'm pretty bummed I won't be going (I've gone the last 3 years) but not because of Morbid Angel - I've seen them a couple times - but I just found out that Morbid Saint is on the bill. I haven't heard if they are doing any other shows...Spectrum Of Death was their only album and I consider it to be the finest thrash album in history. They will be recording a couple new songs for the re-issue of SoD though so maybe there's hope...

(1,986 posts)having said that He is going out on a huge tour with REO Speedwagon and Styx. I'd like to see the outrage they shat upon the Dixie Chicks applied to this Racist, hate spewing, blood thirty, pedophile.
