TED CRUZ TO INTRODUCE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT DEFENDING TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE

TED CRUZ TO INTRODUCE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT DEFENDING TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Monday that he plans to introduce a constitutional amendment barring the federal government or the courts from overturning state marriage laws.

Citing the Supreme Court's "tragic and indefensible" refusal to take up same-sex marriage cases—essentially legalizing same-sex marriage in another 11 states—Cruz announced the proposal in a statement. He said he has already introduced legislation in the Senate to "protect the authority of state legislatures to define marriage," because "marriage is a question for the states."

"And that is why, when Congress returns to session, I will be introducing a constitutional amendment to prevent the federal government or the courts from attacking or striking down state marriage laws," the potential 2016 GOP presidential contender announced.

The idiot has o fucking clue how the constitution gets amended, does he. Where's he going to find 2/3 of each House of Congress, not to mention 3/4 of the state legislatures when 19 states have already made it legal.

What century are we living in? Who says we have to do things the way they were done elebenty jillion years ago?

I'm tired of the idea that the only people who are allowed to be gatekeepers are the religious right. Why do they have rights, but the religious left, and the non-religious, suddenly don't?

The hurdles one has to jump over to pass such an amendment are more than daunting. They're near impossible.

Saying you want to pass a Constitutional amendment is the grand daddy of that other DC exercise in doing nothing: forming a useless Blue Ribbon Panel.

I can't believe there are enough Americans that think these issues really need action and are more important that they trump all other issues that our congress could be doing. I try to respect the GOP voter but... this is your party in action or inaction. It is an insult to every American that they do so little and expect our votes in return.

Cruz wants to make this his first item of business "when Congress returns to session" (i.e., the twelfth of Never). I'm totally on board with that, and I want a question about Sen. Cruz's top priority to be the first one asked of him at every press availability for the rest of his career: Hey Senator, how's that constitutional amendment coming? Do you even have it written?

Every appearance. Every press conference. Every time he's on the teevee machine running his mouth.
