40 FBI agents are in Ferguson to investigate the shooting of Michael Brown
"40 FBI agents have arrived in Ferguson, Missouri to investigate the shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown, Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson announced Saturday.
According to Johnson, who is currently in charge of security in Ferguson, the agents were already canvassing the neighborhood where Brown was killed, seeking eyewitnesses to the killing and other evidence.
The FBI also handed out cards requesting information from local residents, which could be filled out and returned to investigators directly, or to members of the local clergy."
"At the onset of our federal civil rights investigation, the Attorney General of the United States promised a thorough and complete investigation into the shooting death of Michael Brown. That investigation is proceeding. We can confirm that FBI agents, working together with attorneys from the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division and US Attorneys Office, have already conducted several interviews of witnesses on the scene at the time of the shooting. Over the next several days, teams of FBI agents will be canvassing the neighborhood where the shooting took place to identify any individuals who may have information related to the shooting and have not yet come forward. We ask for the publics cooperation and patience, and again urge anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the FBI. The FBI can be reached at (800) CALL-FBI, option 4."

So, you think the entire group of protestors look like a bunch of gang-banging thugs? I bet you don't even care about the implications of that nasty statement you just made. I just saw some similar comments on red state. And conservative cave. Tobasco.
So, even the preachers, the politicians, the children, the students, all gang-banging thugs? I want you to know, that what you said was just as bad as you hoped. It really does not show you in a good light.
Honestly, this is the type of stuff that allows this generational madness to continue. I bet you are much older than i am. I bet you remember all sorts of things like this being said by Reagan and the right wing. How unfortunate that stuff like this is still being spread by those like you

Do you think that a 0% rate of Blacks on the school board of a majority black town sounds normal?
Or does it seem strange to you? I find it telling that they set up a registration drive to fix that. So, obviously the town sees it as a problem. The black people there are already getting judged for their skin color by the people in authority positions. Like the cops. The statistics show racial profiling is prevalent. They wrote a law about it in the state.

Gangbanging thugs is a racist stereotype. White protestors don't get called gangbanging thugs. They get called protestors. Not cool. Is this really a democratic site? It's looking worse every day. Gangbanging thugs. Someone has obviously been believing the hype, and spreading it. Now DU needs to not help spread these stereotypes. Please hide this post.

Though two in three Ferguson residents are black, the city government is almost entirely white.
and their elected school board is also almost entirely white
http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-missouri-st-louis-police-shooting-teen-20140811-story.html#page=1
Of the 53 commissioned officers on the police force, three are black, said Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson.
67% of Ferguson citizens are black. 5.6% of Ferguson officers are black.
And from that:
Blacks in Ferguson are twice as likely to be stopped by police as whites, according to an annual report on racial profiling by the Missouri attorney general.
I may not have a big problem with that because there are twice as many blacks as white in Ferguson (I'd have to review the context of those stats).
But here, we seem to have a problem:
Last year, 93% of arrests following car stops in Ferguson were of blacks. Ninety-two percent of searches and 80% of car stops involved blacks, the report said.

Maybe I've seen this sort of sh^t for way too long now-starting in the late 1980's-early 1990's -the police did not have the toys but they had the tactics -I'm talking about Minneapolis here where in North side of the city where I lived the police in supposed a fight against crack and gangs would simply knock down suspected crack houses with a front end loader (their version of knocking on the door)
or cordon off either end of a 2 block stretch of residential streets and swarm the area-anyone who happened to be outside was down on ground and cuffed-didn't matter if you were 7 or 70 , people were killed as a result of erroneous raids and use of flash bangs and what was done? not a damned thing

In today's Politico Playbook -- presented by Chevron, Chevron is awesome, please let us know, Chevron, if there's any pending legislation we can help you with, we are always here to help -- Mike Allen takes a gratuitous pot-shot at Wesley Lowery. Lowery is a reporter who has been actively covering the protests in Ferguson, Missouri, on the front lines, as opposed to waiting to hear what Chevron thinks about them and then typing it up, for Chevron.
snip//
3. Wesley Lowery was not "amid a riot" at the time he was arrested. He was "amid" a McDonald's. For some, McDonald's is a "riot of flavor," or a "riot of savings," or a "riot of coming gastrointestinal distress." But there was no other "riot" occurring. Lowery was charging his phone at a McDonald's. There wasn't a riot inside the McDonald's nor was there one outside it. This is not in dispute. Had there been a nearby riot, Lowery would have said, "Hey, I'd better go cover this riot, for the Washington Post."
More interesting funny stuff directed at Mike Allen @ Politico..

You're welcome, WDM.. good take down of Mike Allen!
"Slack and Lowery basically committed the same sin, in Allen's eyes, which was questioning entrenched power. Slack put a quote from a watchdog agency in the lede of a story that went on to demonstrate that the watchdog agency was correct. Lowery questioned the police's justification for rousting him from a McDonald's. These are big no-no's in Allen's world, because if you do that enough, you won't have sponsors to underwrite your tip-sheet of yesterday's stories."

(9,895 posts)My first question would have been "are you the manager of this establishment?"
My second act would have been to sit down on the floor in non-violent protest and force him to carry me out of the OPEN business I was patronizing.
My third question would have been for his badge number, name and rank.
You cannot show up in a private business, armed, without credentials and ID visible. The police are NOT the Republican Guard from Saddam's Iraq or the Nazi Gestapo quite yet...we still have laws (allegedly).
I seriously hope that particular officer is suspended for his completely illegal and prejudicial conduct that makes the entire police profession look bad. If I were a cop from a neighboring district, I would be giving his house the civilian equivalent of the military "Code Red" or barrack justice just to make sure he gets the point...

(297,220 posts)that made me cry all over again. Those sweet girls make excellent witnesses.. I've heard this and now I see for myself.
Thank you so much for this vid.. they said "the police were saying Michael Brown was in the car"?! I hadn't heard that either but there's so much swirling around. Of course, Tiffany Mitchell and Piaget Crenshaw said he was outside the car. Very vivid description they gave.. and ultimately he was shot and then again.. and again with his hands in the air.
And, the police removed the bullet from the building where Darren Wilson was shooting wildly. That better go into the report.
freshwest
(53,661 posts)People in the community know what happened. You can't shoot a person who is twenty feet away and fleeing and say you were afraid for you life.
No law allows a cop to shoot someone at a distance, unless they are shooting first. His hands were up, he wasn't close and he was unarmed.
It would take a hell of a lot to contradict the community's story and to convince a jury that the cop should get off. The PD needs to be under the control of the DOJ.

(31,823 posts)I have had good experiences with the FBI - they take a measured, thorough, and slow approach to an investigation. It will take some time, but what they bring to the table will be thorough. (7,759 posts)What traffic would you be blocking? That is what the record shows as the reason for the encounter with Brown...he was walking in the street and not on the sidewalk. That in itself is worth the charge of provoking and incident. This is core to showing what black residents anywhere have to put up with..."Walking while black." Since the cop stopping didn't know anything about an alleged "strong-arm robbery" why would he stop Brown and his friend from walking in this street near their home?

(6,151 posts)As if to say, the kid was a criminal so it was okay to murder him when he turned around and gave up with his hands in the air, got down on his knees and begged for his life. First the sheriff said the officer didn't know about the robbery - as if that mattered with the sheriff stealing a LIFE! - and then the sheriff said the officer did know - as if that should influence whether to murder someone who's clearly surrendering. No wonder people were in such a rage - not to mention all the heavy military tactics being used whether people were peaceful or not.
I signed a petition for a law requiring that police wear lapel cams. That reportedly reduces officer shootings somewhere around 30% when they know what they do will be recorded. Which leads me to believe possibly 30% of police shootings are NOT justified.
This was our Tienneman Square.

(6,151 posts)At least 6 shots, only the last 2 fatal to the top of his head when he was surrendering and had his head down. And some POS teabaggers claiming he could've been rushing the cop with his head down. So really, who does that when they're unarmed and have already taken four close range shots? Not unless they're high on PCP, they don't. No evidence of that as yet and no reason to expect it either.
Now on the CBS evening news Scott Pelley's talking about a Border Patrol official who was reassigned for questioning the validity of at least SEVEN agent kills where people were shot in the back or side while trying to flee. It's open season out there and has been for years. But soooo many claim they have no idea what gets into these minorities. Wait until they're on the receiving end - they won't like it. And sooner or later the MIC will come for them, too. They just think (falsely) right now that the establishment will always be on their side. Not when the herd needs to be culled.

(53,661 posts)In a town with 21,000 people... Yes you saw those numbers right.
Despite Fergusons relative poverty, fines and court fees comprise the second largest source of revenue for the city, a total of 2,635,400, according to the ArchCity Defenders report. And in 2013, the Ferguson Municipal Court issued 24,532 arrest warrants and 12,018 cases, or about 3 warrants and 1.5 cases per household.
The death of Michael Brown was just the straw. The residents of Ferguson have had enough, and the only people I can see blaming them are.. yes, privileged white people.
