CIA director John Brennan lied to you and to the Senate. Fire him

by
Trevor Timm

As reports emerged Thursday that an internal investigation by the Central Intelligence Agency’s inspector general found that the CIA “improperly” spied on US Senate staffers when researching the CIA’s dark history of torture, it was hard to conclude anything but the obvious: John Brennan blatantly lied to the American public. Again.

“The facts will come out,” Brennan told NBC News in March after Senator Dianne Feinstein issued a blistering condemnation of the CIA on the Senate floor, accusing his agency of hacking into the computers used by her intelligence committee’s staffers. “Let me assure you the CIA was in no way spying on [the committee] or the Senate,” he said.

After the CIA inspector general’s report completely contradicted Brennan’s statements, it now appears Brennan was forced to privately apologize to intelligence committee chairs in a “tense” meeting earlier this week. Other Senators on Thursday pushed for Brennan to publicly apologize and called for an independent investigation. Sen. Ron Wyden said it well:

.@CIA broke into Senate computer files. Then tried to have Senate staff prosecuted. Absolutely unacceptable in a democracy.

Clearly these guys operate with complete impunity and disregard for the law. Who exactly is in charge here?

It will be interesting to see where this goes. Brennan is apparently very trusted, personally, by President Obama.

That would be the republican approach. They could try to get him indicted, or served for contempt of congress.

The other thing would be to cut the CIA budget 90% until he is gone.

However I suspect the CIA is blackmailing most of Congress AND the President. Over what, I don't know. But the amount of deference he and Clapper get suggests more than respect.

And he had some of his own that came out. And he seemed like he wanted to get out, so he could start an outside political life.

All I can say is, If Obama truly is supporting this guy after all this, he is in far worse moral shape than I thought.

democracy. Keeping America safe doesn't include spying on Senators or Americans.

The oversight would appear to be lax, the budgets bloated and the power too much. Reign them in before it's too late.

We need to keep moving this country forward, to the brighter, more prosperous future that uncontrolled, unconstitutional and unaccountable wiretapping, surveillance and spying are building for us - and the children. Don't forget the children!
