The University of Arizona has abruptly fired a prominent marijuana researcher who only months ago received rare approval from federal drug officials to study the effects of pot on patients suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
The firing of Suzanne A. Sisley, a clinical assistant professor of psychology, puts her research in jeopardy and has sparked indignation from medical marijuana advocates.
Sisley charges she was fired after her research and her personal political crusading created unwanted attention for the university from legislative Republicans who control its purse strings.
This is a clear political retaliation for the advocacy and education I have been providing the public and lawmakers, Sisley said. I pulled all my evaluations and this is not about my job performance.

(15,933 posts)Whether it is in AZ or some other university. However, she did mention that finding another university would set the project back by a year or two.
Just another way to screw the Vets and delay progress. WTG GOP

(3,911 posts)...grant money goes to the researcher, not the institution. So she should be able to take it with her, assuming she can find another place. Maybe in WA or CO?

(15,933 posts)She is the one who indicated the research would be delayed by a year or two.
I do believe WA or CO might be the best place for her research. You would think universities would be wanting this research done as it would be beneficial to their university

(34,165 posts)I assume that she didn't have tenure with an asst. prof title (which could be wrong).
The only thing that calms me immediately is smoking. I'm lucky enough to have my medical marijuana license, but I know of so many people who are not as fortunate.

(32,324 posts)In university settings who are trying to bring forth truth is most galling.
Big Pharma wants to make sure that it and it alone controls the ability to deem what ailments pot is for, and what it is not for, and of course, most importantly, how it is distributed.
With the profits, need I point out, going right back to Big Pharma. (And if you think your $ 150 to $ 400 a month to the local Calif-endorsed med marijuana clinic are high, wait until Big Pharma is the distributor!)
My best wishes to Suzanne A. Sisley, and my hopes that she is able to recover and go on. We need researchers like her now more than ever.
