Wanna hurt Hobby Lobby? ORGANIZE THIS:

"Your Reason Not To Shop Here" boycott.

This is how it works:

You print up TWO sets of flyers, and you set up a webpage or blog with info on it.

Set One:
Includes a brief statement about how HL owners are fucking over female employees and chipping away at Church/State separation rights by denying women health benefits based on the owners' religious beliefs.

Includes a list of LOCAL alternative places to shop for crafting and decorating supplies.

Set Two:
Includes information about the HL retirement plan investments in companies that manufacture "abortifacients" (contraceptive pharmaceuticals and devices.)

Includes a list of LOCAL alternative places to shop for crafting and decorating supplies.

Then you run a no-buffer zone boycott protest as close to the door of the Hobby Lobby as you can get. On one side, the signs have crosses and pro-life slogans, and the protesters hand out Flyer Two. On the other side, the signs have 1st Amendment and equal rights slogans, and the protesters hand out Flyer One. On EACH side is the banner: "Your Reason Not to Shop Here."

Setting up protest coverage for something like this is a lot of work. Start by identifying volunteers. You're looking for two- to four- hour shifts, at least 2-3 people in each group (so 4-6 people) throughout opening hours at HL.

But if you're serious?

If this happens in DOZENS of cities, if it goes on for a couple of weeks, you WILL hurt HL.

Do not engage in in-store actions or stuff that makes life difficult for the low-wage employees that are already getting screwed over.

You know what will chap HL management asses? Seeing those HL employees standing around in a just-cleaned store with fully-stocked shelves, DOING NOTHING.

Yes, some employees will be RIF'd. That's inevitable. With luck, they'll be able to find jobs at the competing shops that are getting more business. And better benefits.

creatively,
Bright

1. Great idea......

do you have a reliable source for information about their retirement plan investments in companies that make these "horrible" birth control instruments?

2. Retirement plan investment documents filed with the IRS.

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/04/hobby-lobby-retirement-plan-invested-emergency-contraception-and-abortion-drug-makers

Not to mention the fact that their profit depends on buying buttloads of cheap crap from China, where abortions are common, sometimes even forced on unwilling women.

The hypocrisy is mind-bending.

helpfully,
Bright

3. Most of the factories in China

are owned by the state.. Same state that forces Christian women to have abortions. Always good to point out Christians being persecuted.

deal with "the money changers".

We know how he felt about that profession.

Well played.

6. A sign that reads "HL supports forced abortions"

Accompanied by a pamphlet that explains how HL spends billions to import Chinese crap, thus supporting policies of forced birth control and abortions.

10. I like it. That sets up set three.............

And the sign said.......

Hobby Lobby does not support birth control in China.
They support forced abortions!

Oh and throw in a few signs saying...

Buy American!

We may not be able to convince our government how wrong this is, but if we try we can hit Hobby Lobby in the belief they hold most dear.
Right in the wallet!

11. NOW we're talkin'!

Don't forget - NOW we can go right up to people and "just have a conversation!" Yay!!!!! And they can't stop us!

I really like the whole idea of presenting alternative places to shop for hobby/craft supplies! Places that the big box stores threaten to run out of business. And be sure to point out how Hobby Lobby deals with China all the time. Cheap-ass/made-in-China/screw the American worker China. Yeah, THAT China. You all okay with that, Mr. & Mrs. Crafting America?

There should be consequences for this.

Consequences.

I can't wait for some Sharia-law-believing Muslim "closely held" company pressing this advantage. What will the reaction be then?

13. That would be a great plan if....

the HL stores were on public streets. Today, with most of these stores being in malls, and malls being private property, I think your well thought out plan falls quite flat. I remember a few years ago, someone was tossed out of the mall around here by some rent-a-pigs, because he was wearing a shirt with a peace symbol on it, and some words against the war in Iraq. "Private Property," was what the judge cited as the reason that the shirt could not be worn. On private property, the owner has the right to chase anyone he or she wants to, off of his or her private property.

opposing forces against HL! As an ardent crafter and scrapbooker, it almost makes me sad that we don't have a HL that I can boycotte-almost.

Non violent!

Only, you know Hobby Lobby employees make $15 full time, right? That's pretty good for retail work.
