Which is what makes it so transparently an act of profiling.
Here is the street in question:

West<----->East
Road construction has turned it into a complete dead end for months. Even as far as jaywalking goes, this is really just crossing an abandoned road.
I personally have crossed it on multiple occasions in the last few months without a single moment's hesitation precisely because it's a cul-de-sac. There is no car traffic. And if you take a good look at the last picture, you will notice that the intersection where the road starts is actually a T cut through by the light-rail line, backed up against a mountain. So there is no traffic that could travel straight on down the dead end. And there is no traffic traveling West-bound that could turn left onto the road without waiting for the green arrow because they're crossing the tracks. The only free traffic is moving East-bound and could take a right. But they would still have to pass the "Street Closed" sign.
Anyone who knows the area knows that, because of this construction, that part of the road is absolutely dead. And any cop in the area would know the same.
This pissant Officer Stewart Ferrin isn't new to the ASU area. His father was a 27 year veteran of the Tempe Police Department and his step-mother is a dispatcher for ASU Police. Stewart Ferrin was also a police dispatcher at ASU for a time as evidenced in this article:

As an ASU alumni who lives and works within just a mile or two of the spot, I assure you all that any officer stopping someone for jaywalking on this road has ulterior motives.

(8,879 posts)thread, I say we can handle it. Sometimes a small change in perspective is enough to spark a new, more nuanced discussion. There is no reason practical to police for dupe threads imo.

If ASU wasn't party central, the students would be out there marching in it.
