General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo totally depressed today---not sure if I can continue going on in my sad and lonely life.
A current thread in GD asks if you could meet one DU'er, who would it be.
No one wants to meet me.
What have I done to be such an outcast?
There is a side of me that is sweet and just adorable. You folks have no idea what is is like to be in virtual loneliness. I've had the Best Buy Geek Squad to my house several times to check my computer to find out why I do not get any replies to my most awesome posts.
They have asked me to stop calling them.
My despair is overwhelming.
I have visited a Psychiatrist about my situation (Dr. Melfi)--- and she advised me to post more kitten and baby pictures. She then asked me to set my next appointment on her website and I would get a confirmation reply. That was 2 weeks ago--nothing yet.
I leave you with a poem:
I wish I could tell you how lonely I am. How cold and harsh it is here. Everywhere there is conflict and unkindness. I think God has forsaken this place. I believe I have seen hell and it's white, it's snow-white.
― Elizabeth Gaskell, North and South

(81,556 posts)Glad you're here! Good to have you with us! This seems to be the thread of refuge for those of us who didn't get named in that other thread. Oh well... In one episode of the TV show "M*A*S*H", Father Mulcahy cited the lore about Irish families - "there's always room for one more!"
And it's too bad there aren't more DU Meet-ups, as well. I've never been to one, but I'd love to! When somebody would post a thread about one, and add photos, it was always cool to read through and enjoy vicariously. I personally have met ASchwarzenegger, and had several conversations with Will Pitt. And both were terrific experiences! We should all have more of those!

(23,720 posts)Meeting and entertaining new people can be quite exhausting mentally. Then there's the expense, you have to buy them drinks at the very least or pay to put them up at a hotel if you don't want them running amok in your home. If they really like you, you could get stuck with them a very long time (some people just don't know when to say goodbye).

If I worried what people thought of me on an internet site, I would have slit my wrists long time ago. Don't take it seriously, arguing on DU is entertaining and when it gets too frustrating, just go and do something else for a while.
Here's a group hug for you.

(29,503 posts)"Fuck", "Shit", that kind of thing. It got to the point where it was SO tiresome and teenager, I felt compelled to put you on ignore. I later took you off during an amnesty (in observance of New Year's I think).
Now it seems you've finally gotten it, that the vocabulary of an adult man is peppered sparingly with such language, and that it actually detracts from getting your point across.
Separately, there are few here I'd care to meet - almost all are those in the GLBT community, and/or their friends. Not coincidentally I'd guess, I get few valentines or other types of e-hearts, lol. So it goes.

I have long made it known that I hate people, because without a doubt they never measure up to expectations. So in my ego centric universe, in order for me to like someone, they have to prove me that they are worthy of me liking them in the first place.
I choose not to say, "get off my lawn", that's for amateurs, I say, "get off my planet!" And yes, it is my planet.
It's just easier that way.

Road to nowhere.
You mean more to people in your walk of life, bet - than you realize. People you may meet on a daily or weekly basis. Grocer at your local market, a bus stop, um, your vet. Neighbors, landlord, co workers current new or old from the past. Someone or a group you maybe worked with on a political campaign.
People that would truly miss you - and you aren't even aware. That to me is sad. They are there, many that would jump at the chance to tell you what you mean to them, no matter how much or how small it may appear to you.
Here's to better days, on the way soon to you I'm certain.

(25,730 posts)I told my psychiatrist everybody hates me and she said "Don't be silly. Not everyone has met you yet." She told me I had some serious issues and I said I needed another opinion. "All right," she said, "you're ugly, too." She'd told me to watch my drinking, so now I drink in front of a mirror. I told her I've been watching my drinking like she said, but every time I see myself in the mirror I feel nauseated. "What's wrong with me?" She answered, "I don't know, but your eyesight's perfect." Well, that's true. I don't need glasses, I drink right out of the bottle. The last time I gave a urine sample at the doctor's there was an olive in it. And I'm getting old. Last year my birthday cake had so many candles it looked like a prairie fire. Yesterday when I walked past a cemetery two guys came running after me with shovels. I'm getting to the point where food has taken the place of sex in my life. I'm thinking about putting in a mirror over the dining room table. If it weren't for pickpockets I'd have no sex life at all. I'm not even a very good cook. The flies got together and fixed the screen door. The cockroaches order in a pizza every night. I get no respect.

(10,893 posts)I shockingly wasn't mentioned once. That thread was like my high school days repeating themselves, where even though I talked to the popular group sometimes, none of them ever wanted to hang out with me outside of school when it was all said and done. And it's not just that thread, but also much of what happens here in general. All of the more popular posters get the "recs" and comments, while those of us who aren't as well-known have our threads sink quickly.

(10,303 posts)That you will not harm yourself. Don't even think of suicide or things like that.
You are not alone. In fact you are brave. Plenty of people who go to the utter bottom depths of despair don't ask for help.
It's good that you are getting treatment for your illness. Maybe more help is needed? I hit bottom about a month ago, and rather than watch me digging my hole deeper I checked myself into an appropriate treatment programme of intensive group therapy.
So, please please pretty please keep safe.
Mark.
