Another "bright light" story. I wonder if this little girl hasn't spent a lot of time hearing stories in a Sunday school? So, she's never seen a picture of a Jesus with long hair? These types of stories reported on the news, as news, seem a little "off" to me and more like a story to convince people of some kind of evidence. This channel also runs the Pat Robertson 700 Club weekly.
GIBSON COUNTY, TN - (WMC) - A Gibson County 3-year-old who nearly died after trying to rescue a cat from her family pool talks about the experience and says she saw Jesus.
Like many Mid-South parents, Johnny and Christy Kimbro say they spend a lot of time in the pool with their kids, especially during the hot summer months.

MORRIS, Ill. (AP) Officials in Grundy County say a 3-year-old boy has drowned in a swimming pool in Morris.
Grundy County Coroner John Callahan says Liam Vaughn died Sunday afternoon after he was found in an above-ground pool. The (Joliet) Herald-News reports that preliminary reports indicate the boy had taken off his arm floats to eat. The coroner's office says the boy apparently jumped back into the pool without the floats.

Thanks for nothing, Jesus.

(13,992 posts)And it's really more of cosmological point than a joke. People thank Jesus for all sorts of things for which Jesus (I'm sure) is not taking credit.
Jesus saved my little girl!
But Jesus let my little boy drown!
Jesus had nothing to do with either of them. What's the message to the parent of the little boy? Sorry, Jesus didn't give a shit about your kid? He was too busy determining the outcome of last World Cup match? What?
Your kid didn't drown. Be happy, but don't go around telling people the Jesus personally dove into the pool to drag her to safety. It's stupid.
Edit: Just so we're clear, I'm including a joke so we all know the difference: An octopus walks into a bar and sees a band playing in the corner, composed of an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman. The octopus walks up and says Im the best musician in the world. I can play any instrument you like. So the English guy goes All right then. Play this and hands him a guitar. The octopus plays it better than Jimi Hendrix, better than Chuck Berry, better than anyone and hands him back the guitar. The Irishman says Okay, how about this? and shows him to the piano. The octopus sits down and plays it like never before Better than Jerry Lee Lewis and Elton John. The best pianist ever. Finally, a Scotsman says All right, lets see ya play this then and hands him a set of bagpipes. The octopus looks at them and fumbles with them. Couple more minutes and hes still struggling and theres no sound coming out. Couple more minutes and still nothing so the Scotsman says Oh, so can you not play it then? And the octopus says Play it? Im gonna fuck her when I get her pajamas off

(15,064 posts)but just a mention. The idea that "Jesus" was involved somehow makes it more of a newsy thing that skirts the edge of being propaganda.

(27,223 posts)And, I think that IF an afterlife exists, I think that when we "cross over" we initially experience what we believed in life.
If there is a higher power, I think it will manifest itself to us in the form we expect it to take.
And, I would expect this to be especially true for children.
I'm sure a benevolent being would make such a crossing as comfortable for a young child as possible.
