(114,904 posts)A country enmeshed in civil war or deep unrest may well not produce oil. In any case, we don't get a lot of our oil from Iraq, oil is a fungible item, and it will all be used as an excuse to frack more and use more tar sands oil. and what to you mean "who wins the Middle East"? It's not like it's all up for grabs and enmeshed in war.

(62,534 posts)What is at play here isn't the selling of oil, per say, but WHO will be selling the oil.
My money is on the idea that if they rebels take Baghdad, they will soon re-nationalize Iraqi oil.
And THAT is what this is all about. This is why we are "suddenly" getting involved again (as if we stopped being involved to begin with).
Can't have a nations oil going back into, you know, the nation.
