The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has dumped George Will following his offensive column that college women want to be raped because its a status symbol. Will writes for the Washington Post, but the column was syndicated to other newspapers throughout the country.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has run Wills column for years, but theyve been considering replacing him for a while with Michael Gerson. Wills offensive views on campus rape pushed them over the edge, and they said:The change has been under consideration for several months, but a column published June 5, in which Mr. Will suggested that sexual assault victims on college campuses enjoy a privileged status, made the decision easier. The column was offensive and inaccurate; we apologize for publishing it.
Where are the other newspapers? This smug ass hat is dead wrong.

(32,001 posts)I'll take it - but I want more newspapers to get on board with this!

(11,646 posts)but he has been about 30 years behind the times for a LONG time! He is clueless about any number of modern issues and is well past his expiration date. There are many older folks who expend the effort to keep pace with progress, but not the relic. He's too much of a know it all to ever doubt his opionions, even when they are dead wrong.

(10,499 posts)discover that he is not so smart after all! Of course, guys like Will believe that this criticism of his article is from (insert excuse he tells himself, probably the critics are of inferior intellect). He has been exalted for so long he cannot understand how wrong, how tone deaf and hurtful his comments are too so many. That whole Sunday morning show needs to be scrapped!

(34,845 posts)Now Will's in a select (but growing) group that includes Rush Limbaugh. Hopefully that group grows more this year and they can spend the rest of their years patting each other on the back and contributing exactly nothing to society.

(6,891 posts)insist on turning conservative intellectuals like Will into martyrs by trying to shut them up? Conservatism has become an oxymoron for intellectual dishonesty, for the use of fallacious argument in defense of an indefensible status quo . Will, with his fallacious and facile writings, is the poster child for what one gets when you hang a teabag on a bow tie. Much more harm is done to the right by knocking it down, letting it up, and knocking it down again than by failing to silence its voice. This is America. You can't shut anyone up here.
