Quintin L. Murphy, who is headed to the University of North Carolina-Pembroke to play football in the fall, whipped off his purple robe at Jack Britt High School's graduation ceremony Wednesday night in Fayetteville and struck a pose dressed only in leopard print skivvies, socks and shoes. He was greeted by a uniformed officer and promptly escorted from the arena.

(16,423 posts)1. A graduation is an important ceremony and not an opportunity for attention-whores to show off.
2. If the school decides to not punish him here and now, it has no moral authority to limit future pranks.
Streakers.
Hacking the screens to have them play "Baby Got Back".

(26,877 posts)...but they shouldn't deny the kid his diploma.
students are warned 6 ways to Sunday that such behavior will lead to not getting a diploma. He had to behave like a dignified human being for all of maybe 2 hours yet he couldn't. Instead it was all about him. Look at me. Never mind the how many other kids, who like him, worked for over a decade to reach that moment, who had their moment in the sun stolen by this selfish little punk.

(11,238 posts)It's not like it's the seniors who design what graduation ceremonies look like, and the kid disrupted all their hard work. In fact, the link says "the crowd at the ceremony can be heard laughing and yelling its approval." So the kids have a story to tell about what happened at their graduation. Graduations are a kid thing, as you say. Despite what adults try to make them be.

(60,349 posts)They will recall that for a long, long time.
And my youngest daughter has a way to look at everything in life: What ever happens, you always will have a story to tell.

(11,238 posts)And it's as it should be. As we get older there are fewer & fewer ways to rebel without consequence. I'll bet even the most straitlaced conventional kids in that class will recall this with a smile.
Btw, I never once was asked to produce a physical diploma, H.S. or college, in any job interview. So the penalty is pretty ho-hum too.

What a weird world we live in, where death, guns and war are common place but the depiction of human physique is off limits

(13,133 posts)Some eunuch must of invented those whitie-tighties. I guess some people like them for one reason or another but wasn't because they wanted some freedom. What it is all about group think and questioning authority, many hate it when others do that and innovators find many a niche there
