I'm reading on alternative media about Norad
admitting that Russia Bombers were intercepted by two F22's and yet two Russian Bombers
flew 50 miles near California
is this BS or is it real
Anybody hear something?
I'm just curious
its from a website called Free Beacon which I have no idea about
It's probably bogus

(9,437 posts)The incident began much further north when four Russian Tu-95 Bear bomber planes and a refueling tanker enter the outer Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) near Alaska. The ADIZ extends for 200 miles and is considered international airspace, but if military aircraft enter the ADIZ, then the U.S. NORAD sends fighter jets to get a visual identification, NORAD spokesperson Capt. Jennifer Stadnyk said.
Thats what happened Monday afternoon when two American F-22 Raptor fighter jets went up to keep an eye on the Russian aircraft.
At some point the bombers left the ADIZ two headed west back towards Russia and the other two headed south. Those heading south once again entered the ADIZ off the northern California coast. This time they were picked up visually by a pair of American F-15 fighters.

(19,362 posts)I did see this statement from Norad
Command (Norad) confirmed Wednesday. Two U.S. Air Force F-22 jets were scrambled and intercepted the bombers over the Aleutians but the remaining two nuclear-capable bombers then flew southeast and entered the U.S. northern air defense zone off the coast of Northern California, before 2 more F-15s were scrambled.
This bring back memories of the Cold War tactics

Is Russia testing our Defense systems at home and Europe?
How are the defenses here in America? Putin's games are on

(18,857 posts)this wouldn't even get mentioned it was so routine.
Policy is to intercept aircraft that get within 200mi of U.S. land. NORAD is aware of any aircraft long before they reach that line.
Due to its long range, the Tu-95 has been the preferred platform for intelligence gathering, testing defenses and showing the flag. With a top speed under 500 mph, the Bears are not good candidates to attack U.S. mainland. They would be fish in a barrel to our fighters. The Tu-22 on the other hand... but they are not often used on such missions

It states it is "committed to serving the public interest by reporting news and information that currently is not being fully covered by other news organizations."

(6,342 posts)Russia will sometimes fly planes close to our warning systems provoking a response. They've been doing it for years. They tend to do it more in the summer when they are training new pilots. But usually they stay up near Alaska and dont come as close to California.
